When a garage installed a used tranny, they misrouted the TV (transmission velocity) cable, leaving it on the wrong side of the transmission filler tube. The garage insists they are done and done right.
But, I noticed hard shifting/slamming into gear, a PO770 engine code, and the TV cable not withdrawing properly back into the cable up at the top right side of engine, when the throttle was released.
After a lot of grunting and groaning, I was able to re-route the cable to the rear of the tube, releasing the binding cable without removing the tranny or anything else. I also inserted the tranny end of the outer tubing into the receptacle at the tranny, where it had come loose.
Is the outer tubing supposed to be removable like this where it enters the tranny, or is it now broken? If is broken, should I/Can I/How do I fix it (for example seal it to keep water/dirt out)? How?
Could this binding of the cable have triggered the PO770 code? If so, now that the cable is no longer binding, should the PO770 code not return when I reset it?
My generic repair manual's picture shows a .04" gap from the left edge of the metal stopper clamped onto the cable to the leftmost edge of the rubber stopper on the top-of-the-engine end of the cable's sheathing. However, that rubber stopper is easily moved, so it's proper position is unclear. The right edge of the metal stopper clamped on the cable is about 1/8" from the left edge of the metal end (top-of-the-engine) of the cable sheating.
What are the proper reference points on the cable and its sheathing and the measurements to properly adjust it?
Any answers/comments/condolences/last rites would be appreciated!
