you will loose differential fluid if you pulled both axle out, recommend get a pair of new axle seal $7 to $10 each.

you can probably leave the engine alone, and just drop the subframe to access the tranny.

if it is a manual shift, i've done clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, rear main seal without dropping the sub-frame because the tranny is so small, and about 100+ lb

if it is auto transmission, either drop the sub-frame, or pull engine with tranny from top.
i don't think you will loose trans fluid since differential and tranny fluid are not shared.
manual transmission has flywheel, auto transmission has flex plate and torque converter.

if you have the engine hoist, probably easiest to remove both engine and transmission, because you don't have to worry about exhaust and other bracket on the way while removing the big bolts that holds the transmission to the engine.

As long as the torque converter stays attached to the transmission and you dont remove it, Or you dont tip the transmission towards the oil cooler lines (if A/T) so the fluid spills out you wont loose any transmission fluid. Just differential fluid. While the trans. is out, Break the differential bolt loose so its finger tight. That way when you re-install the axles you can remove it and fill it easily
