I got some stock 15" 97 Steelies with 205/65 snows on it now. In the spring I want to pull them off and run All Season. Will 215/60R15 fit? Looks to be the same diameter, but I'm afraid I'm pushing the width. Figuring my stock was 195/70R14.
Ok let me ask it this way.
What size 15" tires have people run without a problem? And where you stock ride height, or lowered? And if lowered how much?
Offset is everything. With the right offset you can fit any tire size and wheel width. Learn your offset and go lower if needed to fit wider tires and wheels.
I've looked into that size/rim/profile question myself. Yes they will fit, but that is really too wide of a tire to put on a 6" wide stock wheel. It will not provide a good mounting base for the tire. The tire will "balloon", or bulge out from the rim too much, and will not make the car handle properly. You need at least a 15X7" rim to mount that tire properly. The clearances are also already tight between strut towers and other suspension components. Think about the diameter of your "pinky" finger, now add a wider bulging tire. My thoughts have been about giving the car a nice 215/60 footprint, on top of filling out the wheel wells with a set of rims (15X7) that push out the track width a full inch on both sides + fatten the tire profile from 65 to 60, for a little sharper handling. With a rim that keeps the same offset as stock but adds the 1" of width on the outside of the rim, you solve the bulging tire problem, keep your clearances, height/speedo numbers and ride close to stock, gain in footprint and track width, and keep the silly cheap price of 15" tires!
