3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Does anybody know of a million mile Camry exists out there somewhere? On youtube there are Ford & Chevy trucks & vans with over a million miles?....Just curious?.....
Yep. A 5s-fe gen 3 IIRC. I read about it in the toyota customer testimonials on there website a few years back. Don't ask me to cough up a link though.

Somebody on this site was looking in a yard for parts and took a picture of a camry odometer with 800,000 plus miles, but I don't remember who. There is a Tacoma on you tube with 600,000 miles, but my Tacoma only managed 300,000 before the headgasket blew.
You can get a million miles out of any vehicle........so long as you keep replacing parts. Many of the claims of a million miles on the vehicle don't reveal what repairs have been done over the course of the vehicles life or suggest that only regular maintenance was done. I am very suspect of these claims and I would require independant verification before I would accept it as fact.
We all know that Toyota makes some of the longest lasting vehicles there are but they we not designed for million mile service and always require periodic replacement of certain components.
Regarding mileage on the big truck engines, yes, you can easily get a million miles out of a heavy duty diesel engine. They are designed for that kind of mileage and are constructed with very heavy duty components and mulitple filtration systems. Even then, they require the replacement of ancilliary components such as starters, turbos, altenators, clutches, steering and suspension parts within the estimated service life. And remember, a million miles on a big rig can occur in as little as 5 or 6 years.
If you are talking about the triton 5.4 they have problems too, my brothers triton 5.4 3/4 ton with leaf springs in the front started by shearing the exhaust manifold bolts off in the head expensive repair. Then it spit a spark plug out of the head another pricy repair, I believe it was the number 4 cylinder. He had a heal acoil of some sort installed ( not a kelvin type). Not engine related he gets the death wobble, and has not yet found the cause.. This tells me if your willing to replace whats broken all vehicles are possible million mile cars, short of a major rot issue.
Quite the contrary! Go to www.millionmilevan.com The same Ford 5.4 V8 gasser thats in my F-150!....
I have that engine.

Have either of you experienced the things I mentioned, exhaust mani to head bolts broken,or spark plug ejection killing the coil?
I'm only at 104k miles. So no, nothing yet.

Check on the years.. But If you look around the number 4 sparkplug, they are using a slightly longer threaded plug to compensate. This is also where I learned about the Kelvin thread repair. Just a heads up for ya thats all, I am not bashing.
I used to work for an ad agency that did advertising for TMS. Back in 99 we did an ad campaign that involved a man in Douglasville, GA that had one million miles on his 82 Toyota Starlet. Once the campaign was launched he was invited to be on Late Night with David Letterman. If memory serves I think he went on the show in August or September of 99. He actually rolled the odometer on the show. We fully vetted the vehicle records and the engine was original and the odometer certified. The man was a traveling salesman that drove his multi-state territory. Very nice family and privacy diligence requires me not to post his name but if you search you can find it. I'm sure there are now others out there but this was the first Toyota I had heard of reaching a certified million miles on the original engine.
