4th Generation Salvage Yard Mirror

I am going to search in a salvage yard this week for a side view mirror for my 1997 Camry. Does the replacement need to be the same year or are these mirrors the same for a number of years?

I'd stick to a 97-99 model mirror (although 00-01 models may fit). The first letter of your VIN number is also very important. J = made in japan, 4 = made in Kentucky. Be sure your car and the donor car match up.

Brings up one more question. Is it possible to disconnect the electric line without having to remove the door panel. How far down is the plug in the door?

you'll have to remove the door panel because the connector is a ways down there. On a 3rd gen anyways. 4th gen may be different

No. 4th gen connector is right at the little triangle plate you remove.

1) remove black plastic piece by prying gently with fingers.
2) Unclip connector.
3) Remove 3 10 mm nuts.
4) reverse steps.
