Will bad crankshaft pos sensor do this?

So I've been putting my camry back together and I can get it to run for 1-2 seconds. Fuel pressure guage reads 40psi when cranking but as soon as it's running it bleeds off quickly ( as if pump shuts off). Car was running okay prior to the heads being removed to be planed ( bad head gasket), but now it runs and then dies. If I hold at 1/2 throttle I can keep it running but the thing smokes pretty bad. When I was putting back together the crank posisition sensors ( those sensors between the heads until the intake manifold looked suspect (connectors had seen better days), but I thought I would throw back together anyway seeing the price of those things.
So my questions is this: if the CPS aren't working or sending info to the ECU will the ECU shut the pump off immediately?
It also seems that one of my injectors is leaking at the fuel rail as well, but the car can't sense that leak and shut off the pump immediately? The pressure bleed off is super quick not like a little leak could cause.
Anyway I'm thinking of heading to the wrecker to grab a new fuel rail but the CPS is a PIA to get to at the wrecker to grab them so before I went that way I wanted to see what you guys thought.
BTW it's a 93 camry 3vzfe

Eh, the CPS wouldnt cause your car to smoke badly. If your CPS was bad, it would either start up and shut down quickly .. or like in most cases, just not start at all.

Have you tried to spray any starting fluid on the motor while its running? It sounds more like a Large vacuum leak rather than a CPS problem. If it is a large vacuum leak your car would try to compensate for the outside air entering assuming its getting more air and adjust your fuel mixture rapidly causing the smoke.

Other things that could cause it to run crappy would be the Throttle position sensor (not being able to tell what position the throttle was in), MAP / MAF sensor wiring bad or sensor dirty.

Basically, I would look at the stuff you removed when you had the head off.. Making sure everything is hooked up correctly. Are you by any chance throwing a code?

What color is the smoke when running? Black or white?

The smoke was blue when it was smoking. It no longer smokes. It still starts and immediately dies. Runs good for like 1 second. Double checked the wires everything looks good except the crankshaft posistion sensor wiring. Fuel pressure looks good now and not dropping after I got everything hooked up right ( looked at another motor). Revving the car inside won't get it to run either. Still seems like something turns off.
My question is can the wiring the the CPS be spliced? I have another harness that's in better shape but it's been cut and I can see there is an inner wire and what looks like a shielding on the outside. If I isolate the shielding in one splice and the inner wire in another splice will that work? Trying to get the CPS to work right and am thinking it's the problem since everything else is hooked up right.

A bad crank sensor won't cause that. If the car starts at all, the crank sensor is working.

The Crank and cam sensor wires are shielded to keep out electrical interference. You can cut splice the wiring, but you have to be careful not to get the shielding mixed up with the wiring.

Fuel pressure going south after starting would be a fuel pump relay or fuse. Check for power at the pump with the key in the ON position.

What I've seen happen is the heat shielding that protects the wiring sometimes gets so hot that it melts the wires together for the CPS and makes the CPS have funky waveforms which in-turn made the car run very funky, or not run at all.

You can cut / repair the CPS Harness .. just make sure to put new Heat Shielding around the new wiring, and to Solder / Shrink Wrap the connections.
