3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My 2001 camry is totaled on the front right side. It seems like several parts including the radiator is smashed in. The right panel is pushed back a bit so the passenger door cannot open now. The engine on the other hands seems untouched. Pictures to come tomorrow.
So what would need to be repaired aside of all of stuff up to the radiator? would it have any dangers if it got into another car accident? Is that considered Frame damage??

It would be a good idea to post pictures of the car so we can have a better idea on the condition of it. The car is ten years old, and while the damage to it might not be severe, it might cost more to fix it than what the car is worth. Your car sounds fixable, but the insurance company would wrather write it off and give you a check for it than fix it.
If you want to keep the car, fight with your insurance company. That worked in getting my Cressida fixed wayyyy back in the late 90s when it was in an accident. The driver's door and fender were hit and needed to be replaced and the insurance was thinking about toatling it, but my grandpa got them to go ahead and get it fixed.

I dont want them to fix it, i'd rather have them give me the check, then i buy the car from them, and then go to my own mechanic to fix. However, do you see any future problems/danger of this?

That's contingent on who you get to do the repairs. You can fix anything with the right expertise and $$$. There could be damage to sub-frame, rad cradle, and other supporting structure that needs to be repaired and then the airbags will need to be replaced.

So Since the other person's Insurance company is paying for the Total Loss(All State), then they may not let me buy the car back from them after they give me the check for a total loss??

Insurance company is going to do what is best for them, and not be liable. I don't know about the auto laws in your state, but I think you may have to apply for a rebuilt salvage title if you can fix this car and make it roadworthy.
I would take it to a collision expert and have them determine if the frame is bent. Since your Passengers door wont open, I'm assuming that it crunched the body in a bit and pinched the door
if the frame is damaged, it is not worth it, it would cost probably the value of your car (or even more) Why put thousands into a 10 year old car? But it all boils down to how many miles is on the engine if anything else was wrong with it etc.
You could probably find a decent 01 Camry for half the price you would be fixing yours for.
My car has 130k Miles. My dad is all over buying this car back since he "believes" the engine is still good and there is no frame damage.
It is probably better to find a different used car, but we are inexperienced with buying used cars and dont want to buy a crashed/bad taken care of car. That is the main reason why he wants to repair the camry, b/c at least he knows we took care of the engine.
Thanks for the response guys i will try to convince him to at least bring it to the mechanic to take a look first since the door wouldnt open.

Yea the body is crunched in so the door doesnt have much space to move and open.
