Angry NJ parking lot hit & run

ugh, I hate drivers in this state ...

look what I found on my car today (was having a day off due to weather):

honestly, I hate people in this area ... they rub/smash/damage someone's car and just drive off ...

I have no collision coverage, but even if I had one it wouldn't make any sense to push it through it (deductible) ...

judging by damage I think the car which did it was higher suspended than mine (SUV or a truck) and was having black plastic bumper because I still have pieces of it on my car. If I ever find the mf who did this I would take a hammer at night and destroy his headlamps as a thank you ...

more pics after car dried out a little (was wet from melted ice & snow), it actually looks more scratched and to much higher than I thought... the highest scratch I found on the tail corner lamp about half way the lamp's height.

also no longer sure if a black bumper did this... the black pieces might have been my own bumper primer maybe?

all scratches look white to me and between bumper and rear quarter panel I find pieces of black plastic, white paint and even something blue (could be also primer?).

anyways, chances are I will never find a van/suv/truck with matching damage, so all I can do is to move on. I hate that.

probably all I can do is to take it to a car wash and then buff out the scratches and ignore the dings

thats very unfortunate Jakub. Does your apartment complex have security cameras installed? I doubt but still...if this has happend in your apartment complex just take a walk around and see if some car's bumpers have scrapes. Most likely he's that guy?

I feel your pain. My car was hit on the rear quarter panel in the parking lot and left a crease in the metal. But it was low on the body that I took a hammer to it and push it out a bit. What bothers me is why do people continue to move their cars after bumping into other vehicle? Back away, trying to move it just makes things worse.

Most of the damage is on the edge of the bumper cover which suggest that someone turn the wheel too soon while pulling out next to you. (not sure about it) Try touching up the area with paint before it rusts.

Get a can of 3M Wax and Tar Remover. Its amazing and well worth the cost. If anything is paint on paint it'll take it right off without removing clear coat. I have a can of it that's been aging for at least a decade. All my buddies have been amazed at what this stuff does without eating clear.

Other than that if its paint damage get some rubbing compound followed by polishing compound and then wax is the best your gonna get it.

However, I think you can get it looking alot better using the above steps. Just dont wetsand or claybar. I have no idea why claying is so popular considering it takes some clear off......

thanks guys. unfortunately there is no cameras anywhere near this complex.
I'm 99% sure it happened this morning while I was sleeping through the sleet. It almost looks like some idiot didn't even feel his car hit mine and continued scratching it

it's really hard to actually do SUCH damage when pulling into/out of parking lot ... unless someone is retarded and has stereo volume turned up to max ... I just hope his/her whole side is scratched to hell

judging by height of scratch marks, it was not a passenger vehicle... chances are it was a company van/truck (.e.g verizon/comcast/pseg) which could have been doing some repairs around this complex this morning... I don't know

later when more cars comes back to parking lot I will take a look at their bumpers, I doubt I will find what I am looking for though...

carsrus, thanks for a tip on 3M Wax and Tar Remover. I will get that and try cleaning marks off. it should also cover the exposed metal (paint stripped on edges of quarter panel).

thanks. and yeah, it doesn't surprise me at all somehow ... it's just pissing me off terribly. No wonders why some guys take a baseball bat at some point and smash offenders' cars (if they can find them) haha ...

... I can only hope the other car has the whole side scratched ... I really hope they do ... all depends how their car parked...

what do you think about using this product?

Somehow I cannot find anything by 3M which is called a "wax and tar remover", maybe it's no longer sold?

Sorry to see this on your car. 2 years back on a christmas day somebody hit my car on one side like yours in the night. I saw it in the next morning and was really pissed. Guesss what happened the next day!. The very next day somebody (same retard or a different retard) hit the other side of the same car. Talk about bad luck..I tried to use a hammer and pulled it out a bit..I am still pissed about this. This is my first camry ever (2000 v4, black) and i still drive with two ugly scratches on both sides of my back bumper and quarter panel.

mail2_jb, I think you mean inline 4 not v4. The 2000 Camry didn't come with a v4. As a matter of fact, I don't think any Camry ever had a v4!

oh man, that sucks ... 2 sides in 2 days? that's really unfortunate ... unless someone was aiming specifically at your car ...

I am not going to remove/replace any parts because of that, I just learned to live with such things, pretty normal in NJ/NY area.

I think I will get that 3M scratch remover from Advance Auto tomorrow and try it out in a few days after taking the car to an automated car wash (can't do much else with normally below freezing weather and no garage)... screw the dings, I learned to ignore all of them on my all cars long time ago ...

exactly. I have never damaged any cars (belonging to someone else's) in a parking lot... but at least I would have guts to talk about it with owner (simple note: "I smashed your car, call me after work blah blah") and pay them a $100 or two for a cheap fix for something like this.
that's the least I could do. I would even agree to using insurance if damage was real bad on other car, that's what it is for (liability).

I hate jerks running away from stuff like that. I can only hope his/her car is in worse condition than mine.
