Fuel Door Wont Close

Hey guys I been meaning to post this sooner. A few weeks ago during a super cold spell here in Wisconsin I had to fill up my 93 Camry. I pulled into the gas station and pulled on the latch to release the fuel door, Nothing! So I tried and tried and I had to be to work in 30 minutes so I was in a hurry. I went inside and asked for a screwdriver and got it popped open. It will not close now, I am thinking about rigging something up with a magnet in there to keep it closed is it safe to have magnets near fuel? It sounds fishy to me so I wanted to ask so I don't spark something.

Open your Fuel door and make sure that little latching nipple is still functioning. If it is, make sure the Spring section of the door ( towards where the bolts are ) Is still in-tact and not broken.

Reason your door probably isn't closing is because you bent the Bracket away from where it locks onto that nipple

Sounds like your spring to pop the door open wasn't in place, I had this problem also. Unfortunately you may have broken the plastic piece that retracts when you pull on the lever.
+1 on what Mr. Perkins said also.

Hey guys I was looking at the fuel door again. The orange clip that is attached to the door itself is what I broke. So the plastic piece that pops in and out when you pull on the latch still works. So I'm wondering if anyone can measure the size of it. I may use a piece of electrical conduit latches looks like a macaroni bracket. Or even a c bracket. I don't want to buy a whole new door. Any ideas?
