Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Why do you want to swap it? Fill it up with some good old 15w40 when she starts smoking and you can get another 100k out of it.
I think your trying to get at what other engines you could swap in. Ive heard the 3.3 V6 might fit. 2.4 isnt a good engine so I wouldent consider it.
2.5 V6 from is250? I think its RWD setup though.
Im just throwing ideas out. The 3.0 would be bolt in, cheap and good power gain. The 3.3 should fit but more $$$ and fab work. But drive it till it dies and youll have a ton of time to find cheap parts.
Why not just swap in a replacement motor, instead of purchasing another transmission, different wiring harness, axles, motor mounts, shift linkage, under-dash harness, etc.. Your going to spend thousands on everything, when you could spend $1500.00 on a certified rebuilt and swap it in 3-4 hours and be driving the next day
certified rebuilt just means if they send you a dud they will exchange it, firm believer in only junk comes from a junk yard, that said my 3mz is from a junk yard and was under warranty, had a bad ring in it (30k miles too) junk yard started saying there was nothing on it and blah blah blah.
now what are you looking for?
full swap like engine, ecu, trans? (mz,gr,az,ect)
partial?
engine, ecu? (5s-ge (you need to custom the head to the engine) or any above with bad gearing and can break the tranny at any time)
engine trans? (5s-fe with v6 trans for better fuel econ?))
engine only? (5s-fe or 3s-fe only options here where you would stick with the 5s unless your hypermilling)
or sick nasty (1uz, it can be done, if you have to ask then give up seriously i'm not giving anything more to this)
also any fwd engine will work
7a-gze (awesome 220 hp engine only 2.0l alot of custom matching)
3s-gte (custom matching but off the shelf engine same power above)
3vz-fe (you fail emissions retardly custom bits good for turbo)
2zz-ge (VVT-Li seriously toyota only makes this engine now for lotus, gooood bit of custom work here need to find the ultra rear xrs for the fwd and not the rwd one)
formula Atlantic 4a-ge (12k red line! 210hp n/a 1.6l, rebuild every 30k, serious money here)
glp m90 1mz-fe (numbers to come but looking well over 300hp, off the shelf engine from trd4life prolly have a full swap done for a few grand)

^ and leaving it that way!
you left out 2az-fe. very possible but no one has done it yet, thought it would be easy in theory since it was avalible in a gen1 solara. strong motor, plenty of power and tq and good mileage.
Pretty sure the OP wants to just replace his 5S though.

I'd find a wrecker with one still sitting in a lower miles Camry or Solara, same year, same trans. Stick my finger inside the tailpipe for a good wipe, (no oil or other crap), see if it could be started and/or do a compression test, and if good, buy it and have it or put it in. Sounds like you just like the car, don't want to vroom it up, just freshen it a for a few more good miles of enjoyment. I don't think you could do it any less expensively than this.

I believe all OP wanted to know is where to get a quality replacement 5s-fe engine from
You are correct, I just really love my car and she's pushing 360k lol still purs like a kitten but I'm afraid its nearing the end of its life, I'm just looking for a good place to find a new 5sfe, and the only thing i would consider is a 3sgte if its not rediculously expensive to swap in. but I am intrigued about the 3sfe frankinstine. if anyone could drop some more info on this and what im looking to spend it would be greatly appreciated.
