So I decided to start knocking what I can off the list of crap I gotta do to my '98. (the one to which everything seems to be falling apart all at once)
Rear brakes.
First let me just say that in a world where 80% of the braking is up front anyway, it's pretty hard for me to *want* to do rear brakes just to start. But.....I know they were worn & probably about 2% effective if at all anymore so I decided to do them.
I bought the Harbor Freight drum tool kit which has the cool pliers, retainer remover & adjuster wrench. The TAKING APART part of the job those tools were awesome. The PUTTING BACK part of the job those tools were almost worthless! (Though as a fan of tools I'd still not give them up!

)
I forgot what a PITA the e-brake mechanism is. Stupid little c-clips. Stupid little adjuster (that's pretty pathetic in function anyway) and trying to put it all together at the end while holding the other shoe up......just shoot me!
The little spring at the bottom, I probably should've put on first, but again, compared to front disc brakes, rears are so much more complex you'd either have to do rear brakes for a living or have a freakin' map to step your way thru the easiest.
Anyway.........they're done. I'm done. Car stops better (for now. E-brake styles adjusters fall short in time & rears will suck soon enough)
How's that for pessimism!!
