3rd Generation Keyless Entry Help - 1994 Camry V6 XLE

Hey guys,

I ordered a Viper 211HV Keyless Entry System off of Amazon for $50. The reason why I got the Viper is because my driver side lock cylinder is dead after 17 years of use, and it is really inconvenient to walk through the snow when parking on the side of the road to unlock the car from the passenger side. So before I started I got the wiring diagram for my car (all 300+ pages) and a wiring diagram for the Viper system: Located Here

I've got the system to respond to the actual remote (I hear the relay clicking) but it does nothing.

From what I understand, I need to send a signal to the door lock control relay located in between the chassis on the passenger side. I've tried tapping into the blue wiring harness/cluster located in the drivers kick panel that feeds into the driver lock/unlock switch but no dice... I just have the 12V+ constant (spliced into from a previous amplifier install) and ground (spliced into from the driver side kick panel) currently hooked up to it and tried running one wire at a time to the that wiring harness. The installation instructions in the pdf are really ambiguous but I don't blame them, as they list several different types of connections. I assume I am supposed to be using the Common Output as that is a (-) signal but I also know that 87 and 87a are very common relays. Am I missing something?

For those who cannot access the pdf for whatever reason:

(+) 12V CONSTANT POWER INPUT

(-) 200 mA SECOND UNLOCK OUTPUT

INPUT OF DOMELIGHT SUPERVISION RELAY #87

OUTPUT OF DOMELIGHT SUPERVISION RELAY #30

LOCK #30 COMMON OUTPUT

LOCK #87 NORMALLY CLOSED

LOCK #87 NORMALLY OPEN (INPUT)

UNLOCK #30 COMMON (OUTPUT)

UNLOCK #87 NORMALLY OPEN (INPUT)

(+/-) PARKING LIGHT FLASH OUTPUT

(-) CHASSIS GROUND INPUT

(-) HORN HONK OUTPUT

FACTORY ALARM DISARM

(-) 200 mA CHANNEL 3 VALIDITY OUTPUT

(+) SWITCHED IGNITION INPUT (ACCESSORY)

(-) 500 mA GROUND-WHEN-ARMED OUTPUT

UNLOCK #87A NORMALLY CLOSED

(-) OUTPUT OF CHANNEL 2

Thanks in advance for your replies

PS: For those who are interested I can send over the whole wiring diagram pdf

Now this is an answer from someone who has bought a remote system as well, but not yet researched the instal. and electronics to anything close to what you have yet. My drivers side locking mechanism is also not working, at least fully. The solenoid works buts not well enough to lock or unlock the drivers side door. The key still works. Now assumming maybe that the actuation systems rely on a master control from perhaps the drivers side. You can hear relays working but not solenoids and locks... Perhaps the mechanical system in the drivers door, has to function properly to activate the other electrical systems... when using a remote in particular. I've pulled a full locking system out of a salvage car to replace my own, but it was a tough job, and its an interesting package of little mechanical systems, solenionds and switchs. (not yet installed). Just a thought..

Ahhhh alarms. My specialty. My advice is to check the12volt.com, then report back.

Hmm... I did not know that the solenoids may be acting up, I may have to look into that further.

I actually checked this site out prior to posting:
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/2038.html

This spreadsheet is essentially what I deciphered from the wiring diagram.
I just don't understand how the Viper system works. It says that it can operate each actuator individually, yet the connections do not have a clear (+) and (-). Granted, I understand that Common Output is a negative connection, but the rest are not so clear... Also, am I supposed to connect more than one Lock wire? (e.g. #30, #87, #87a)

Thanks for your replies

It shouldn't be difficult. Connect the ground wire from the alarm ECU to the lock (dark green) wire in the driver's kick panel. For the unlock, same thing. Unlock ground wire from the alarm ECU to the door unlock (light green) wire. No relays needed. The wires from the ECU are basically just providing an alternate electrical path to ground, which completes the circuit and locks or unlocks the doors. I hope that makes sense.

I don't know if you'll believe me but I spent 4 hours on Friday trying to figure out why this didn't work. I took the Lock Common Output wire from the Viper and just jammed it into the socket where the lock wire is in the kick panel... no dice... I tried it for all the wires then, and tried it for the unlock too... nothing... doesn't seem like I blew any fuses because everything works just like it should. I just don't understand why it doesn't lock/unlock. Then again, I did try plugging it in to the connector that runs to the door where the door lock/unlock switch is... maybe I need to tap into some other place, or have another wire hooked up too for it to work... sigh...
If this doesn't work, does that mean the alarm ECU may be bad?

Is there a way to test if the alarm is bad?
Would I just hook a DMM to the Lock Common Output and one connected to the ground ?

I have a 92 and installed a viper alarm a few months back. I used a step by step from the forum for a keyless/remote start and just ignored the remote start stuff. Mine worked with no problems. The only thing I didn't do was hook up the starter kill relay. I can't find the DIY that I used, it's the one from the soap guy. Does anyone know where that DIY is? Also, that one should go into the How-to sticky thread.

If you need, I can try and take pictures of the wiring on my viper system for you tonight. I'll be working on the car anyway.

I bow down to you good sir If you could take some pictures of the wiring that would be awesome. Do you have the same lock/unlock wires?

I read that you have to send Violet and Violet/Black (87 Normally Open for Lock/Unlock) to ground... would that be all that I am missing?
