3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I have this car...its a '94 camry LE with 240,000km on it and lately(not constant, it tends to be random) after the car warms up and I slow down(for a stop sign and such) the RPM's drop really low and the needle kind of bounces between 100 and 5 or 600 ish and eventually going so low that the car stalls. I put it in neutral and it restarts fine. I took it to the shop and they scanned it, and solonoid2(auto trans. solonoid) came up in the scan. it was replaced and my car seemed to run fine. now a few days later, it is happening again. does anyone know what may be wrong??
Try cleaning your throttle body, paying particular attention to spraying the cleaner liberally down in to the square or diamond shaped port in the base of the throttle body. That port leads to the idle air control valve, which may be dirty and may be causing your problem. Spray down there first and let it soak for 10 or 15 minutes while you go on to clean the rest of the throttle body.

I haven't tried putting it in neutral before braking...
It sounds almost like your Shift lock Solenoid is stuck. Next time try to put it in neutral, and if it doesn't drop in RPM Rapidly, next stop try to Down shift it from Drive to 2nd to Low and see if it helps. If it manually down-shifts I would say your Shift lock solenoid may be stuck and you should get it tested. It will be right behind your Neutral Safety Switch and have a Single wire connector that attaches to it.
My 2000 Maxima does this....it's a 5 speed though.....and I figured out it's the MAF. It's going to get fixed in the next couple of weeks (thank god, sick of it stalling 15 times a day).

Back when I still had my jet performance module connected, I came across the same problem. This module intercepted the MAF wiring. Once that wiring started to have some intermitant connection issues, I started having the the same described problems. Fixed the wiring, fixed the problem with the input from my MAF. You may have problems with the connections to, or the MAF itself.
