Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi I have several problems with my 95 Camry. The 95 camry just had its hood fly off again and I'm trying to put it back on. Only this time one of the socket wrench heads fell inside the right fender. Could this damage anything under the car? What's inside and down there? I'm not skilled enough to completely remove the fender and I am very worried.
I also noticed that at low revs in drive the gears sometimes shift to neutral so no movement when I step on the accelerator. What's wrong and could it be related?
thoes definatly are not related. but removing the fender isnt any harder then replacing teh hood, it just takes longer. however, you should be able to get it by removing teh inner fender lining. just takes thoes screws off and pull it back. and why id you hood fall off again?
I had my hood fly up and smash my windshield on my civic one time.. Forgot to put the hood pins in. LOL
Yeah hood and fender are not related. Hood has 4 bolts on the hinges (1 per side) and 2-4 bolts that hold the Hinges to the body. The only other thing that makes your hood work is the Latch mechanism. Did you maybe forget to latch your hood closed?
If you are experiencing no acceleration while the pedal is being pushed, Your kick down linkage could be out of adjustment. There is a small amount of time that the Transmission takes to down-shift / upshift. Its a mixture of electronics and hydraulic pressure, and the mechanical Valve for the kick-down.
The linkage may need adjustment or the transmission may be slipping. How's the fluid level and condition?

Hahaha...the first time it flew off was because I was adding power steering fluid and had to keep the lever open manually b/c the front end was crushed when someone did a hit and run on my car. After I closed the hood I forgot to make sure the lever behind the seat was closed first and it didn't latch properly.
The second time my brother was driving the car so I'm not too sure but apparently the hood wasn't closed all the way again -_-.
It's been a while since the transmission fluid was changed...would that help? Does the timing belt having 95k miles on it have anything to do with it?

Sorry, again yuh004, but it would have been useful to note that some dummy had smacked into the car and taken off on you. The timing belt should be changed about now, get it done, or do it yourself. I believe the engine is non-interferance, so the worst it will do to you is leave you on the side of the road, until you get it fixed, but it doesn't likely have anything to do with your transmission issue, unless perhaps some damage was done to your transmission fluid cooling system. (maybe a pinched cooling fluid line) Again, check the fluid level and condition. Most impacts involve alot of rebound of components after the initial smack. Damage that is first visible, rarely reflects upon how much the car was crushed/damaged and flexed during the actual incident. If the 2- stage hood latching mechanism on your car has been damaged enough that it is not reliable, then alot of front end damage has likely been done. A hood flying open is really not a funny situation, and was no doubt scary as well as dangerous.
