Radio / Cig Lighter do not work. (3rd Gen. '93 Camry)

Every fuse behind the change compartment is good. Turned the car on one day and it just stopped working. Now.. the cig/radio fuse had been used by a previous owner for an after market alarm install. I had taken that out when I had to jump my headlights to a fuse that only came on when I started the car.

That didn't end up working, so I removed the wires. The radio worked fine after that, but the fuse in there by itself didn't seem to get a nice and tight connection. With that said, I just had to push it in a bit or even do the Fonz thing and hit the change compartment and the radio would start up again. It does nothing now. With a good fuse in it.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the pins that hold the fuse in place got bent outwards making the fuse loose on the panel. Check for 12v+ where the fuse goes first.

4th Generation

Does the Gen 3 have a fuse block under the hood on the driver's side like the Gen 4? My fuse was burned out in the fuse block under the hood. The ones I recall behind the little coin tray door on the driver's side were okay.

Just a thought.

Yeah.. there is a slim fuse box there. Right behind the other fuse box. There is what looks like 2 spots for 2 fuses to go into, but there is a yellow plastic piece going in between both of them. I looked down into that spot and I couldn't even see if there was a connection to be made if I put a fuse into it. To my knowledge, there has never been a fuse in this location, and the radio had been working the entire time..

Don't know if they will help you or not, but here are pics of my fusebox guide for my 99 Gen 4 (the one under the hood). Hope it helps,

Dave

@dave ya there is a slim fuse box underneath the hood, right behind the larger fuse box. it actually does have a radio fuse location in there, however since I've had this car (10+ yrs) there has never been a fuse located in that spot. The radio had worked great the entire time I've had the car up until I made this thread.

So there are two radio fuse locations. One in the change compartment (left side fuse box) and one underneath the hood. There has never been a fuse in the radio slot underneath the hood, and the radio has always worked. The one in the driver side left fuse box worked up until last month. The fuse in that location is still good.

Edit: Just busted out the multimeter and was unable to get a reading from the radio fuse at the left driver side fuse box.

What are my options?

I have no idea what to do. I'm guessing I'd have to get behind that fuse box and fix the wiring, but how much of the dash would I need to remove? This would need to be a weekend project.

Could I just run it to the battery for a quick fix? Stock radio. Stock speaker system.

No, the radio could be left on all the time, even when the car is off. You will always have to shut the radio off manually each time you shut the car off, and sooner or later you will probably forget to do that. That will cause a dead battery if left overnight. You will also need to put in an inline fues of the same ampereage that the cig/radio fuse has. I would tap in to one of the wires under the dash that is live only when the ignition switch is in the on position for this purpose. First, I would still take a look under the dash for a loose or broken wire to the fuse box and repair that if it is easy enough to find and repair. If not, then go the alternate route.

Under the Hood in the Slim Fuse Box right next to the bigger fuse box is a fuse called somthing like 'interior' or 'dash' or 'cig'. Im pretty sure it is a the CIG fuse.
That Fuse is the fuse which powers the Interior Door Light, Cig Lighter and Radio..
I have posted this in the hoping that anyone else out there with this issue in the future would be able to find a solution
