3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My Camry, in the past year, has seemed to fall apart...I managed to figure out the issue with the EGR valve, but now the car is leaking gas like a faucet...I can't seem to win...anybody know if there is a common area for these cars to leak. I had the fuel filler neck replaced a while back and now this...all I can hope for is that the tank is still good.
Fuel usually will leak where its pressurize. Mainly towards the Back tire, where the fuel lines are exposed. Thats the most common place for them to burst, right where it goes from under the car to the tank.
You almost will never see a return line Splurge fuel everywhere. Although, it does happen sometimes. Just turn the Key to the ON position without turning the car on and see if you have fuel spilling out. This will confirm a Main fuel line leak.
ok, quick update, took the car to a service station and had them hoist it up. The lines are good, but the tank is not. It is pouring out gas from the seam...anyone had experience with this before and how much it cost? BTW the car is a 4 cl with a 5sfe engine.
Hey Mr Perkins, yes the leak, is coming from the tank. on the passenger side. I did check all of the fuel lines for any pinches or rust and they actually seemed to be in excellent shape...the tank however...
Thanks for the tip! Thats a good idea haha...I love the car just hate all its little quirks...but as far as engines go, this one, at 230,000kms is as quiet as it was when it left the showroom floor! Thanks for all the help and advice...if you have more, it is all welcome!
Boy, do I have a laugh for you guys. So this afternoon, I started pricing out gas tanks to replace my leaky one. I first went to NAPA...can't get it, so i went to another parts store and got a quote for $420. I almost hit the roof. So I went home and called the stealership and they quoted me $916.91 for the tank. When he said that I almost threw the phone in disbelief. I then called a third place called 'tanks unlimited,' and got a quote for the same tank (new) of $205.00. Add another 20 bucks on that for shipping and then HST...it was a little bit over $250. Small price to pay for a good tank. The best part is, its under a lifetime warranty and will be here tomorrow morning. Thought I would share.
In case anyone is curious, I live in Nova Scotia, Canada
