1997 Camry 4cyl transmission shift cable broke - manual

Does anyone have a pdf or e manual which can help me complete this task? The cable broke at the transmission link and I have the console out but need help completing the rest. If someone could lend a manual I would be forever grateful.

Thank you in advance
Lee

PS Called Napa today and they asked whether the car was made in Japan, door says Kentucky. I've read where engines were made in Japan and cars assembled in US. Or does it even matter.

Napa is $139 for the part and there are some ebay cables for $85.

It's pretty straight forward. Once you get it unhooked from the shifter itself, you'll have to reach behind the center console on the floor and undo 2 10 mm bolts that hold a mounting bracket in place. Then, disconnect it from the transmission (only 2 clips no biggy). Once that's done, you can pull the cables through the firewall into the car.

The 2 bolts will take you forever. I recommend a ratcheting wrench.

I hope you have skinny arms!

Thanks Chris, I saw the 2 bolts when I jacked up the car hopefully I can get to them on the engine side of the firewall. Where I'm having difficulty is removing the center console that goes around the shift lever and temp controls, then I can get to the cable/shift lever. By the way, its a automatic.

Have ratchet/extensions, thanks for the 10mm heads up.

Thanks for your help.

I'm broke as a joke so thankfully this happened where I'm staying.

you can probably go to a junk yard and pull one for pretty cheap. Maybe 5 or 10 bucks

Chris - "The 2 bolts will take you forever. I recommend a ratcheting wrench." Wiser words have never been spoken, off to buy a ratcheting wrench. That top 10mm bolt is a b.i.t.c.h.

Once that is done I wait on parts to arrive.

Thank you again for your help.

Thanks

Mission accomplished, thanks for the help

Now need to have a professional replace the valve seals and from what i've read on here lift the cam head and clean the exhaust and intake manifolds.

My 185k mile car needs a little bit of love.

Stay well and take care
