Canadian Gen 3 XLE Question?

Has anyone ever actually seen a Canadian XLE, Gen3-3.5 Camry? I've seen dozens of salvaged Camry's in the yards, a few with all of the options you might expect an XLE to have. I've looked at the trunk badging of hundreds of these cars on the street, but I have never seen one of these cars with the actual letters: CAMRY XLE, on their trunk lid !!? Are they that rare here, or is this a labeling difference between US and Canadian cars in these years. Even the Camry that I scored my leather interior out of was absolutely loaded with everthing available at the time including ABS, but had the trunk label of LE-V6.

Nope, U.S. (maybe other) market only I believe. There is or was an XLE at Calgary Pick n Pull, 4T VIN likely imported.

USA trims: DX, LE, SE, XLE
Canada: DX, LE, LE Sport

The Canadian LE could be speced alllllll the way up with "XLE" options. It also had some XLE options as standard I think... like push-button HVAC.

Thanks. I've always wondered why Tony the Tiger's '94 Canadian Camry V6 LE had push button HVAC, when I saw the same Camry LE in the U.S. with standard climate control controls.

My uncle's old 92 Camry LE had push button HVAC as well. His car was a J-VIN (Made in Japan) model though.

If the car was set for the Canadian market, and it's an LE trim, it's going to have the push button HVAC like the US marketed XLE models.

Always loved that video. I have that steering wheel too.

I've seen a few XLE's up here, Ill take a look inside next time to see if they're US spec.

My parents have a 96' LE with leather & ABS but no heated seats or push button HVAC

Nope the push button stuff isn't standard on LE's. I have the knob system. Intermittent wipers apparently came standard in Canada (based on what you told me). More or less, like you said, you could spec it up to XLE.

I thought there must be some differences in model designations. My old Honda Prelude (1986) was an apparently patched up, US Si model, not available as that here, in Canada it was an SE (2.0L fuel injected). Try to find an replacement ECU for a Canadian Si.! (Canadian models had a different ECS and the computer constantly went into limp mode) I've just read lots of Gen3 posts from US members refering to XLE models, and thought... WT heck, I've never really seen any such thing around here. The car (from Calgary pick and pull), I pulled my leather interior from had all the stuff, including a bunch of fancy fake wood trim parts, and gold badging that some but-head had tried to pry off and had broken most of them before giving up. Interestingly, I've never seen an LE in the yard without push button HVAC, unless it didn't have AC. Anyway, good information to know, as I'm reading posts from my cousins to the south.

Thats kind of funny 71Corolla, I think you've maybe triggered a memory of seeing one, single, XLE in my searching around Calgary Pick n Pull, maybe last summer or late fall. If you happened to see alot of head units and instrument clusters pulled out, with unbroken parts sitting around, that was when I was sourcing the parts for my factory JBL system. I never checked the VIN to see where it was made or came from. At the time I think I thought about robbing the gold XLE badging, but it wouldn't match the rest of my car, and I was looking for other stuff anyway.

I get the impression the factory alarm was useless since the Gen 3 topped the most stolen car list for some time Sunroof is nice, it give you the map light On another unrelated note, and sorry to threadjack, but to those with premium sound, do you guys also have the problem where the mesh trim on the tweeters will just fall off on occasions? Has anyone found an easy fix to that?

Topped the most stolen car list!!! Really?, most of the car thieves and kids out here in Alberta were going after Honda's and big silly trucks and SUV's back then, Camrys were boring Famry vehicles..... Maybe a small touch of GOOP, or rubber cement would keep those mesh trims from falling out. Never had the problem myself though.

That last bit might be wrong - friend of mine had a 92 LE 4-banger slushpumper, that thing had the slider-style setup for HVAC, iirc.

(He ditched it for a jetta )

But yeah, LE in Canada = LE, XLE in the states... Not to mention LE Sport (F*ck Yeah Canada!).

Yeah I remember it being a big issue with my parents back when they bought it The deal breaker for the Camry was that it was offered in the more powerful V6 as opposed to the 2.7 V6 in the Accord that was introduced that year I think?

See the thing is, I want to have it in such a way that I can still remove it to remove the door panel (which I've removed one too many times, which is probably why I have this problem). I was thinking one of those small dime sized velcro pads? Any thoughts?
