The Following User Says Thank You to chronoti For This Useful Post:
I used tirerack.com in past 2 times and got nice V-rated tires at $70-80/each (plus $15 each was installation and balancing at a local shop affiliated with the tirerack.com Recommended Installers program)
my current favorite choices are:
a) 15'' rims
Dunlop SP Sport Signature 205/65R-15
94V rated, 460 AA A
currently $80/each
b) 16'' rims
Yokohama AVID Envigor 205/60R-16
92V rated, 560 A A
currently $92/each (got them at $80/each in late Summer)
really like both, however my Yokohamas are louder than Dunlops.

Costco's price includes free road hazard and rotation/balance. They use torque wrenches to install wheels. They recommend 5K rotation/balance. Maybe 7.5K is still good.
Some Gen 5+ Bridgestones wear out around 20-25K and therefore are actually more expensive than Michelins.
Check review on Tirerack.com too.

How long would you wait to replace tires with rotation if you drive around 50ish miles a day?
Well, I have Dunlops Sport Signature on my Avalon in the front, they are not too bad,10k miles on them.
Yokohoma is a nice tire, we have those on my Mom's quest, rides real quiet and good tread life,25k miles.
On the 07, still has the Original Michelin tires, 53k miles on those. Probably last till 55k. They are quiet also.
I would look on Tire Rack and see which tire has the best reviews and make your decision.

I got 4 tires for $320 including mounting fee+ tax. the brand was hankook' tires. I
checked the the review of my tire model and the consumerreport ranked #2 behind michelin.
I believe the warranty is 80k miles.
I am really satisfied with my tires, no road noise, good breaking.
I recommend the Miichelin X-radial from Costco b/c you get the 70 off if you have that coupon (which happens often) or the Michelin Hydroedge. Costco charges you the wheel balance, tire rotation for an 14 each, and gives you the road hazard warranty for free. All totaled for the radials, mine was 324. Make sure you get an alignment done after you get new tires.
Since you're in Socal, Hydroedge would be fine since there are a lot of standing water, esp on the freeways. Yes, I hydroplaned more than I would like to admit on my old Douglas tires. In my experience, Michelin is the best for our type of weather and for longevity. I've tried bridgestone, douglas, goodyear, and a few others; they aren't as good in my opinion.
Edit: Oops...you aren't necessarily in socal. Unless you live in the Sierras or in Imperial Valley, I'd still recommend the X-Radials. I'd recommend 5k intervals along with oil changes. Its easier to remember that way.
do you actually have to rotate tires at Costco like they force you to do that otherwise you loose warranty or something?
I think BJ's does something like that. is Costco membership card needed for access to their store/shop?
I cannot rotate tires anymore on either of my cars, because I keep worst out of round rims in rears so i will be just replacing front tires when the time comes

The road hazzard warranty says: "The Purchaser must rotate and balance their tires as outlined by the vehicle manufacturer." It doesnt say anything about not getting it rotated at Costco. If you have proper documentation of where you got them rotated at any other place (say Walmart), I guess its still valid.
Costco requires membership, so its worth it if you own a car (tires and cheap gas) AND if you buy in bulk.
Can't you just get new rims? Pardon my newbness.

rims don't bother me as long as worse ones stay in rears. I am not a tire rotation believer, had only problems with it on older cars with busted rims
I could get new rims and just sell those to some reconditioner or on ebay as "grade B" as they are scratched like hell haha. only thing that if buying new rims I'd rather take 17's, but I have new 16'' new tires on old OEM rims, don't feel like selling them yet at half price
another option would be getting same used rims from somewhere, but there is no guarantee they are any better. I actually like OEM Solara V6 rims. I "could" consider getting a set of used TRD rims though, even if 16''
my wife doesn't care about her car ('00 solara i4) either, she would drive it to ground as is no way to explain to her that she needs 2 new rims, she would say "unnecessary expense, it drives"

LOL, I guess I'm a sucker when people say I need to get a tire rotation.
At least you got decent size rims. I'm stuck with 14" stock rims. They don't even manufacture the 70S that Toyota recommends.
If you can get the TRD 16" rims, go for it!! Do it for those who can't and are broke.

I dont know how youre a non-believer in rotating your tires. The fronts wear out sooooo much faster than the rears on the majority of cars. I see this all the time as i work at a tire shop.
