3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
With the right "nostalgic" Kentucky buyer that could bring a premium. I wonder if it was officially sanctioned by Toyota, or just something local dealers did as a group buy with a few dealer installed options and custom nameplates.
That's a dealer created thing. I saw a Australian "Rally" edition gen3 Camry, which was another dealer creation. Besides, it's an LE that has some very underwhelming options. No leather, no moon roof, no alloy wheels, no double din CD/cassette player, no premium audio(door tweeters), no push button A/C controls. Aside from the super bright ass stick on wood grain, and the custom ashtray panel, it's just a ordinary LE.

I had an '88 Camry LE. Black exterior. Looked really sharp and really liked it. Open the door and it had a maroon interior - everything was maroon inside. gearshift, dash, carpet, seats, headliner, everything. Hated it.
Bought a '00 Camry LE. Silver Exterior (Lunar Mist Metallic) with Gray Interior. That was probably the most boring looking color combination.

Ever look at a car on Ebay and start modding it in your head? Minus the wood, tints, nice wheels... solid cruiser. Very nice gen3, it's a testament to how they were built that they're still rolling as the oldest of them nears 20 years old. I see many "clapped out" gen3's but rarely if ever do I see a badly rusted one. Says something when you live in the road-salt infested northeast.

I saw a Toyota commercial yesterday that said 80% of Toyotas dating back 20 years are still on the road. Probably true of Hondas as well, but not many others.
Rust...as long as you're not talking about Tundras...
I'm assuming the older Camry (or any older car for that matter) used different sheet metal. Like the Gen1 and Gen2, a minor rust spot will spread like cancer super quick. A lot of Gen3's here that are almost 20 years old are still pretty much rust free. Maybe like a coin size surface rust at most. When my Gen1 was 20 years old.......it had already some holes bigger than coins...goes for Gen2's too.
At the time I was shopping for a car and eventually bought my '92 Camry, a lot of the manufacturers were switching to double-sided galvanized steel. It was a big enough deal that a lot of the ones who did mentioned it in their brochures. I don't know, but I suspect the Camrys previous to the gen 3's didn't have it.

2001 Yamaha FZ1, Ivan's jet kit, resprung all around, Ohlins in the rear, Race Tech cartridge emulators in the forks, 45k miles.
There's a noticeable difference in the thickness of sheetmetal from the Gen 1/2 and then the later Camrys. Just do a tap test on body panels of a Gen 2 and then of a Gen 3...HUGE difference.
As for interior color, my Cressida's interior is all brown and could also be had in maroon or blue. Nowadays, you basically can have black, tan, or grey. I wish the color choices returned. I want blue interiors again!
