unknown prob in my 97 Camry

My 97 Camry was running great, til yesterday. I started the engine, put the transmission to "D" (DRIVE), and notice that the light on R N D 2 L was off, the whole odometer was black out, but the car still running. The only prob is that I dont know how fast I'm driving. I thought the fuse of the odometer is dead. But when I drive about 7 miles, the CD player is dead, the headlight is dead and my car engine stopped.
I called AAA and the guy said my alternator is bad since he jump my car and the head light gets dimmer then shut down.
But after I change the new alternator, and jump, the prob is still there. Any suggestion

Yup make sure your battery is good and all ground connections are good.

The scenario you described first does sound like a bad alternator. However, when they go bad they like to fluctuate voltage and sometimes can wipe out the battery at the same time.

I brought the battery to autozone, they said I need a new one. I replace a new one. Then I can started the engine, but the odometer is still not working, plus windows is not scrolling.
Headlights, signal, CD players are working.
The situation is exactly as I stated above (before I drove 7 miles and the car is stopped). So I'm afraid if now I drive about that distance and the battery is drain out, so the car will stop again.
And when I drive, I press the gas pedal down, but the car doesnt seem run smooth as before. ( I have a feeling I drive on "D" mode, but it is like in "2" mode)

Don't listen to what AAA tow drivers say. They're idiots. When my battery died, the guy said the same thing to me, to change the alternator, but all I needed was a new battery. Don't get a generic battery from Autozone. Either go with Bosch or Die Hard batteries.

Check all of your fuses and see if they're blown. Sometimes when a battery is getting jumped, some fuses go out but it's very rare. Check all of your ground wiring, fuses, and bulbs.
