3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I would benefit from more legroom and would like to know if it's possible to extend the seat track in the car.
For example to buy track rails from same car, cut out some pieces and weld them in so that seat slides farther back?
Or may be there is a better way to increase legroom?
My car is in the signature: 97 Camry XLE V6.

#1 rule of cars: If you have enough money, you do ANYTHING. Now as far as HOW to do it... I have no idea.

My guess would be like you said, extend the sliders. Can be done probably easily if you know how to weld. Just go to a junkyard, find another same camry, take the sliders. Take yours, cut the ends off and weld them together. Boom. You can drive from the backseat.
I'm not sure if I'd want to MIG weld those sliders though. If you have access to a TIG or someone that can, i'd recommend that. Just thinking out loud.

It wasn't the safety aspect, it was the precision (edit: and the cleanness). But either way. It's not like i'll ever be driving his car. Hahahaha.
Also... proper seating position. Shoulders flush with the seat back, your wrist of your right arm should be able to sit on top of the steering wheel (12 o'clock) with your wrist bent so your fingers naturally droop. I hope that makes sense.

First thing to do would be get some tracks. Maybe someone here has a extra set of seat to sell cheap. I'm sure something can be done. If I had a set I would work on it with my buddy. If it can be done he will figure it out. How tall are you? I'm 6'0" and find these to be much better then my past Tacoma, Land Cruiser, and Civic.
+1. I'm 6'2" and I have no issues in the gen 4 camry. Unless it has a sunroof, then my hair brushes the headliner if the seat isn't slammed to the ground (XLE model with full power seats.)

My older brother was supposed to have my car, but he is too tall 6' 4", no legroom for him. Me, I fit fine, 5' 11" and have about 4 inches between my head and the headliner.
Maybe make some brackets that actually position the whole seat back, don't think that is safe though.
Do you guys know what stops the seat when it reaches farthest back point? Is there some kind of a stopper? If say two tracks are welded together, will it still stop at the same spot or will it slide using new extension?
I'm 6'4" tall, and my legs are pretty long, I think I have 36 or 37 inches inseam.
