ported vacuum switch

I have a 1993 Toyota Camry with a 4 cylinder engine. I had a coolant leak from the heater control valve. After replacing, I added coolant to the radiator and started the car with the rad cap open, so to wait for the thermastat to open and add more coolant. The engine ran OK for a few minutes then died. It will turn over but not start. I noticed that while removing the heater hose, I broke one of the ports on the ported vacuum switch where the upper rad hose meets the engine. I tried plugging it to see if the engine would start, still no go. Would this be the cause of the engine not running? Is there any way to test this without replacing the part? The car was running great before this except for the coolant leak. Thanks for any help.

Pete

Thanks for the link. I fixed the port by gluing and reattached the hose, however the motor still will not start. Turns over but will not start. Is there anything special that needs to be done after a vacuum leak to reestablish vacuum for the car to start?

TTV is to do with emissions. Once it reaches a certain temperature, it opens up and draws vacuum to the Charcoal canister. has nothing to do with starting the car

That is what I thought, thanks for the clarification. Back to the drawing board to try and figure out why it won't start.

Cool! Whats powering it?

Yes, that is a '95 Dauntless 15 with a 50 Honda.

Great to see another Whaler owner on the board!

(sorry about taking this off topic....)

No problem, not that there are a rush of people to help.

My boat has a 1983 Evinrude 75hp. Motor runs strong but I have a hydraulic leak in the trim motor that I need to fix. There is always something.

If it wont start then I would pull one of the plug wires off the plug and have someone see if it sparks to a piece of metal, like a screwdriver or something when you turn it over. No spark = no dice. Then I would check that it is getting fuel next...
