I have an automatic 1999 v6 camry, i notice the letters and numbers on the shifter, after D there is like a 2 and a 1. What are these gears for.

guessing your new to cars and didnt read the car's manual/drivers license manual.

1 is 1st gear only
2 1 and 2nd gear only
o/d off will give you 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear
o/d on will give you all 4 gears

you use this when you need to shift the car manually in to lower gear for towing or going up uber steep hills
