So look up my 98 2.2L and Wix says Part Number: 51394 Style: Spin-On Lube Filter Service: Lube Type: Full Flow Media: Paper Height: 2.977 Outer Diameter Top: 2.685 Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed Thread Size: 3/4-16 By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11 Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes Burst Pressure-PSI: 400 Max Flow Rate: 7-9 GPM Nominal Micron Rating: 21

Now look up a couple numbers and found this.
Part Number: 51396 Style: Spin-On Lube Filter Service: Lube Type: Full Flow Media: Paper Height: 3.402 Outer Diameter Top: 2.685 Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed Thread Size: 3/4-16 By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11 Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes Burst Pressure-PSI: 400 Max Flow Rate: 7-9 GPM Nominal Micron Rating: 21

Looks like the only difference is the Height: 3.402 vs 2.977 (0.425" longer).. And it don't see any reason it won't fit. And maybe I could then use a full 4 QT's of oil.
and I have a case (10 pack) of regular size 5s-fe filters (6 OEM left and 3 others) and another case of regular size 1mz-fe filters (8 OEM left)
I think I will start changing them half way the OCI to use them up faster LOL

also another alternative for 1mz-fe is the Purolator Pureone (yellow one) offering very good filtering, some say it's superior to WIX actually, but I actually don't know the longer height part number for 1mzfe on this brand, the regular size is PL10241. anyone knows?
for 5s-fe it is PL14477 (longer) vs regular size PL14476.

on a side note, for 5s-fe it is PL14477 (longer) vs regular size PL14476.
After some cross referencing and stuff I got PL20195.
I use the 51516/20195/3600 on my 5sfe. This way, I can keep 1 filter stocked for multiple vehicles.

Seals fine. Quoting dimensions means nothing. Screw one on.

The only disadvantage I see is the little bit longer to fill the larger filter on initial startup. With the newer 2.4L engines it's no problem, because Toyota finally put the filter the right side up so the filter doesn't drain dry in some cases with earlier stupid designs.
Motorcraft's FL-400S filter is a cost effective alternative at Walmart. It's supposedly made on a Ford inspected Purolator production line. Should be similar to PureOne in performance.
And while there pickup Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-30 or 10W-30 depending on the temperature in NY, if you don't go fully syn like Mobil-1, Castrol, or Pennzoil Platinum.
