Angry 96 Camry Issues

Howdy folks,

I have a 96 Camry 2.2L 4 cylinder engine, American built with what I'm guessing "electrical issues".

Problem:
My passenger mirror can only be adjusted up and down, but not left or right. I checked the wiring and determine the mirror was faulty. I replace the mirror but to avail. I attached the mirror to a friend's car and it worked. I then rechecked all connections and wiring everything was remarkable.

My heater control assembly keeps blowing the bulb that illuminate the knobs. I replace the bulbs and that lasted for 3 days. I bought a used assembly and that lasted a week. I'm thinking a "short" somewhere but I can't figure where.

Does anyone have a solution or can point me in the right direction? I bought this car in 97 with only 2 miles on her and I refuse to let her go on like this. She has been good to me; even though I sometime abuse her.

Thanks folks.

Grab yourself an electrical schematic and check the wiring is really the only solution there is..

Either fix the wiring, or replace the harness behind the dashboard.

I didn't know you had to be mechanically inclined to read electrical schematics

96 Camry 2.2L

Well folks,

It seems that the inevitable cannot be avoided. Replacing the wire harness is a must as me and the schematics reading does not get along. Thanks to all who replied.

That's another expensive guess. Did you check the mirror switch and contacts for corrosion or weakened solder joints?

All you have to do to check the wiring is check for continuity from one end to the other. If it has continuity, its connected the entire length. If it doesnt have continuity from end to end, its broken somewhere in-between.

The mirror switch is a good idea to check out. Maybe get a spare and see if the Mirror switch itself is faulty.

don't rush out wiring harness replacement
those things depending on model (can have multiple smaller sections or is the whole big piece) can be very pricey (think of 1 grand or more at MSRP at dealer) ... good luck with finding the one which matches on junk yards - they usually sell only engine harnesses and nothing else except for some loose pig tails.

If you can't troubleshoot it any further then look for a specialized car electrical shop nearby and give them a chance to do the job for you. their labor rates are another story.
