92 Camry: Replacing Rear Bank Spark Plugs

I need to replace my rear bank spark plugs that are underneath the intake plenum. I've seen people talking about doing it without having to remove/loosen the plenum, and I'm hoping someone has some tips on how to pull that off.

If not I could use a good guide to removing the plenum so I can get at those plugs.

Thanks

Just remove the bolts in a Criss cross pattern and loosen them uniformly. Then put a new gasket in when your going to re-install the manifold after changing your plugs.

You loosen them in a criss cross (uniformly -- little by little) To help prevent Warping

its pretty easy without removing the plenum. you just need a 6" extension, a universal joint and another extension. works like a charm for me every time. sometimes the hardest part is getting the plug boots out if they are old and stuck. if the rubber bit breaks off in there, i use a coathanger with one end shaped like a crochet hook to dig it out.

Thanks! Got those rear plugs taken care of and it really wasn't all that difficult. Unfortunately the car is still busted. Think its time has come.

The saying is if the rear banks use coils then the manifold needs to come off; if they use wires, then no.

What did you end up doing?

I was able to snake my hand back far enough to pop the plug boots, that are connected to the wires, off. Then we used a 3/8" socket, 2 6 inch extenders with a universal joint in the middle, and a spark plug socket on the end. Once we got them out I used an 8" length of rubber tubing to connect to the end of the new plugs and feed them down in and start threading them. Then finished them off with the ratchet. Wasn't really as hard as we imagined. Really glad I didn't have to take the plenum off.

Car still won't stay on. Pretty sure I have a cracked head gasket.
