Arrow Problem with my driver seat

Hey everyone. Sorry in advance if this is a noobish question. Everytime I sit in my 1997 Camry the rear portion of my seat falls back. Sometimes this happens while Im driving and Im afraid its going to result in an accident one day. Is there something I can replace in the seat itself that will hold the seat up in a comfortable position or do I need a whole new seat?

Any DIY tricks or help is deeply appreciated.

You know, I've come across this with a few 1997 Camrys.

When I went to go car shopping with my dad back two years ago, the two Camrys that I looked at (1997 LE V6 and 1997 LE I4) at a dealership had that same problem. Like you'll set it and if you leaned back a little, It'll just go back and seems like 'stop' at a certain place where it wasn't worn. Irronically, my friend's 1997 hasn't done that yet.

I, too, would like to know what causes this too.

Imagine that happening a few times on the way to work or the store? I cant even tell you how many times that scared the crap out of me in the beginning. Im sorta used to it now though. Cant wait till I get this fixed.

You just may need to tighten a bolt or two, with the mileage it has probably worn out. Does it feel like the seat "collapses"?

Both my camrys with over 160k in the seats never do anything like this. Though I did sell and replace the seats to someone whose camry did that.

I don't think it's worth risking the safety of just trying to hold it up, just replace the seat. If that happens at a dealership, call the cops or something.

Hey Chris I see youre parting out a Camry. Do you happen to have a seat for a 97-01? Thanks buddy.

Same here. Drivers seatback falls back with no warning.

Dealer wants $800 for a new one. What else is new? ;-)

So what did you find out?
