99 Camry shift moving but gears not engaging

Hi, I have 99 camry with 100,000 miles on it. Recently I got this problem with this car. Shift is moving but it is not engaging any gears. It is 4 cyl automatic transmission. Could any one please tell me what could be the problem. thanks.

When you say the shift is moving do you mean the gearshift lever? If so, then make sure the cable is moving the lever at the front of the trans. If that is moving, then there's a problem with the transmission. If it's not moving, then you'll need to find out if the cable or the shifter is broken. Also be sure the transmission fluid level is not low and is up to where it's suppose to be on the dipstick. Are you comfortable with and have some experience working on cars? Because if you don't and are not sure of where to look or what you're looking at, probably need to have a trusted shop look at it. Good luck and keep us informed!
