1992 Camry Driver Side Window Problem (Yet Again)

I drive a 1992 Camry and it seems like I have to change the driver side regular/motor once every year (I'm a smoker so I roll down my windows a lot - I know, bad habit and a good reason for me to stop smoking while driving). I was wondering if this is normal? Would a bent track cause this or something else cause this?

I know there are a lot of threads about this problem but I'm just wondering what could cause this and why am I changing it once per year?

Thanks in advance.

Why are you replacing it? What problems is it giving you? Where are the new parts coming from?

Well, it's happened FOUR times already.

The window, when it's going up, will make some sort of crunching noise and then it'll completely stop going up or down. I'm replacing it because I live in rainy Vancouver and I don't want to drive around in the rain with the window down.

I think the parts are coming from Lordco (a local auto parts dealer). Not entirely sure as my mechanic puchases it.

im assuming this is the cable version? regardless if its the mechanical or cable version it sounds to me that u need to lubricate the rubber tracks on the door...if the mechanical track (which u also need to lubricate properly) was bent then it would have given problems from the inception...really sounds like the rubber tracks are creating enough friction to put strain on the motor causing the cables to snap in its housing (the crunching noise ur probably hearing)

Thanks for the info.

[Warning: No dirty thoughts please!]

What type of lube should I use? Also, do you think I can get away with just lubing the rubber tracks that are visible without me having to take apart the door panel?

Thanks again.

i've seen guys use anything from baby oil to gear oil (dead serious)

WD40 is good enough and it wont have ur windows dirty like other oils...just spray some from the top of the track and it'll work its own way down... then just work the windows up and down to get everything nice and lubed up...motor oil works very nice also except its a very dirty thing to have near ur windows...you will also wanna grease up the mechanical tracks inside of ur door very nicely, dont just put in the new motor...

had one of my rear window motor cable snap once because the track was very dry and full of dirt, u can hear the window make a little hiss going up. changed the motor (well actually fixed it but thats not something u wanna do, very hard to get it done right, took me a few tries and a few hours) and greased everything up and it working perfectly since then

I lubricate the rubber in the window tracks every year. I use a synthetic grease with PTFE(teflon) that I buy from Ace hardware. I'm sure you can find it at any home hardware store in Vancouver It works great for me! The tube looks like this:

yup that lube should do the trick...also ur gonna wanna clean the track b4 u lube it...if stuff like dirt or sand is in there the lubricant would just make it harder to clean...

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update. I sprayed WD40 and moved the window up and down a few times and it's fine now. It still makes a small crunching sound here and there but at least it goes all the way up now. I think I'll leave it as-is until it finally does (fingers crossed that it doesn't die of course).

Thanks again everyone and this is a wonderful form.
