3rd Generation Anyone have experience with alarm systems/electrical issues?

My old Avital keyless entry will work, but the trunk release will not. The alarm doesn't engage either, nor will the red LED light come on. Also, when I open the trunk, the dome light inside the car will come on. The dome light comes on when you open the front doors, but when you open the back doors, it wont come on. If you open a front door and a back door, the light will come on and off when you close a door and open it again. Weird electrical issue, maybe related?

The dome light issues is VERY likely a sticking door open button/trigger. They're RIGHT on the door frame when you open the doors. Small little black button thing. There may be a DIY for cleaning them.

As far as the alarm goes, it sounds like it's either disconnected, or in valet mode. Any idea what model of Avital system you have? It may say on the alarm ECU, or you may be able to look up the system from codes on the back of the remote.

Hmm let's see. This is what it says on the back of the remote...

RPN 473L 268 CODES

Not sure which model system, but it's definitely older. I looked on the website and they don't have any info. on this particular one.

2^66 Codes, actually. You have a few remote choices that work with your system.

Now, I also found this bit of info.

Avital:
Avistart 3100/3200/3300
4000/4100/4103/4200/4300/4400
5103/5303
Alarms: 2000/2100/2200/2300
Hurricane 3

So that DOES narrow it down a bit. But not enough. I'd say your going to have to look UNDERNEATH the dash board on both sides of the car. And under the seats. And behind the kick panels possibly. And when you do, then you can refer here. Only took me 10 minutes or so to figure all this out.

well the remote works as far as attempting to remotely start the car (but fails) and the keyless entry works. what am i looking for under the dash? the valet button? i found the button but pressing it does nothing. i also know where the brain is but haven't taken it out. what should i be looking for?

Look for the brain (alarm ECU). There should be SOME type of info on the box. We need to know what model you have installed so we can check the literature and be sure that the settings are correct. THEN we can move into whether or not the wiring is messed up. And you have remote start? I didn't know that. Hmmm.

I'm just assuming I have a remote start because when I press the star button on the remote twice, it turns the ignition on with (but makes a clicking noise like it wants to start but doesn't). I know where the brain is, i'll find out soon. thanks
