auto to manual reverse light question

hey guys, i'm new to the site but not new to the camry. i've had the auto to manual successfully swapped in my 92' 5sfe for a little over a year now but have never figured out how to make the reverse lights work. also, i'm still running the auto ecu and wiring harness. basically, i need to figure out how to wire from the auto reverse sensor pigtail to the manual reverse sensor. future plans involve 3sgte head and maybe turbo! woot woot

or he could cut the connector for the gear selector and take the thick black line from it and the reverse line and connect it to the reverse switch so when the car is in reverse it closes the connection that the gear selector normally closes for reverse

Yup. The switch is on the top of the tranny, sticking straight up directly to the right of the engine block. It's near the flat part where there's a few grounding spots and the clutch line goes near it as well.

You'll need the connector to it and be able to splice it into the auto harness. I hate wiring harnesses haha.

Okay this is a pretty old thread, but I'll tell you how to do this.. As I have just finished swapping my 5speed in my 95 a few weeks ago.

Pretty simple. Get a test light, put the NSS in Reverse and probe the wiring until you find the single wire that goes to reverse. Confirm it by turning the NSS in park while still probing the wiring.. the light will shut off. Cut this wire at the plug and Solder or using a connector add a 4-6" Piece of wire.

Next, find your constant power (should be a slightly thicker wire). Note: Dont run the power from the battery, because if it ever shorts its going to just melt and catch on fire without a fuse. Once you find the constant power on the NSS, splice into it (DONT CUT IT OFF). Connect a 4-6" length of wire to the Power wire that is still attached to the NSS.

Now you can connect it to the transmission 1 of 2 ways.

1. Get a 5-speed OEM Reverse Pigtail from the junk yard. Snip it, cut it, whatever you have to do and splice it into the two wires you now have.
2. Get two small Pin Connectors, and crimp them onto the wiring you spliced into on the NSS. Make sure to put RTV silicone into the top of the plug if you do it this way, so its protected from the elements.

I did Option 2 because I didnt want to cut my manual harness I have.

If you want to swap harnesses, keep in mind you have to replace the entire Under-dash harness.
