egr problem

i have a 1996 camry 4cyl and here is what is happening. while driving at cursing speeds the car runs fine, then when you go to stop or put in in neutral it wants to stall out..if i rev it up quick then it will come back down to idle.. i got code p0401. what does this sound like? i literally have to put it in neutral before every stop.

P0401 means EGR flow is insufficient. Either the EGR system is carboned up or the EGR VSV isn't working.

Stalling may be the idle air control valve. Disassemble and clean. Make sure the vane can spin freely. The motor and the cup under the bimetal spring cover plate on the opposite side should be removed so you can spin the vane rotor.

sounds like the EGR is sticking, it takes a lil while/vibration to close, that would cause the bad idling but not the p0401, it could be the IAC and stuck closed EGR
