New DistributorCap and Plug Wires?

So, I need to replace my plug wires and distributor cap because when it rains my 95 camry doesn;t start easily. This is most likely due to moisture in the cap. It was actually a recommendation on my last service

So does anyone have advice on which brand to go with. I know there are some issues with certain plug wires not being compatible with the 5SFE engine, so I would appreciate any feedback there

I found some good prices on Rock auto...I changed my plugs a few years ago. Should I go ahead and switch those out too?

NGK (I've had this set for over 4 years)

Just pick one up at NAPA. Make sure to get a dist rotor too.

you should change ur plugs as well...just cause everything's gonna be all new then

might be a good idea to do a complete minor tune up at same time and also change spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter (OEM on this one, comes with bracket) and maybe also drive belts if they are old (p/s and alternator).

I like to use factory ignition parts on any vehicle I work on.

yeah I agree, even further I like having nothing else but OEM parts around and in the engine...

both NGK and Denso are considered OEM though.

price wise though I would go with NGK TE58 wireset (around $30 on amazon, shipped free).
spark plugs by NGK (Laser Platinum, lasting like up to 60-90k miles) are like $10/each on amazon.
sometimes you can find cheaper Denso OE plugs (Double Platinum) in your local Autozone (~ $8.50 a piece) however.

even better deal (if locally in stock) is to place an online order in Advance Auto webstore using online coupons giving like $20 off $50 (EM2) or $25 off $60 (BIG25) or something among those lines (google "Advance Auto codes"), and choosing local pickup on everything.
this way you get internet price and local pickup 1hr after placing the order

Seems like everyone in this post missed it, but if you are getting moisture in your dizzy cap after it rains, you should look into getting new packing. This is the o-ring that seals between the dizzy housing and the cap. You probably should replace the cap too while you're at it.
Take the whole dizzy apart and reseal it too with a gasket sealer where necessary. It's a really easy DIY. Just make sure you mark everything as you disassemble it.

If the cap, rotor and the plug wires don't solve your hard starting when damp/wet out problem, the next step would be to remove the coil from inside the distributor and inspect it for hairline cracks. The cracks can cause the coil to short itself to ground in damp weather on any metal inside the distributor. This is a common problem on these coils as they rack up lot's of miles.

Well I can't say anything about the D-cap, but I've been using Bosch plugs for the past 4 years and no issues there. What horror stories?

YEC caps and NGK wires.
They are made in Japan.
If you have a way to find out the country of origin for the parts, you can get any brand made in Japan. Do not put on your car anything from China.

Better safe than sorry though....I did a little google search and found some opinions, yet no real substantiative evidence. I will go ahead and switch to NGK for the cap and plugs then....
