3rd Generation Possible Transmission issue??

Hey guys I got some heart breaking news the other day. I took my car into my mechanic because whenever I shift from park to reverse/drive, my car exhibits a very harsh THUMP*. One of the mechanics at my usual shop said that some transaxle (I dont know) was messed up and that eventually the tranny was going to go. His brother (my usual mechanic) looked at it and said that its not a tranny issue, it just has a rough "engagement" but if I wanted, take it to a trnny specialist to be sure for peace of mind. I took it to Aamco and the mechanic drove it for 20 mins and when he came back he asked me if the tranny was original, I said yea. He said, for just under 300k miles, its one of the smoothest shifting trannys he's ever personally tested especially with the mileage. His conclusion was the mounts which was my personal conclusion in the beginning. I did the mounts 15k miles ago, could they be bad already? When I replaced them at that time it was a little rough shifting and vibrations, but now I feel torn?? I don't know if I should go ahead and put money into the car fixing the rack and pinion since its leaking and rear strut mounts?

So my question is, does that sound like a tranny or a mount issue and if so has anyone ever had any experience with this?? My Camry is like my baby, I love it more than my newer car...everyone thinks I'm weird because of that..

What engine mount(s) did you replace? What's the condition of the dog bone mount?

Sounds like motor mounts but you should visually check if you can.

Sounds like an engine mount issue. Get a TRUSTED helper, put them in the car and shift from P to D and to R and so on. You pop the hood and watch the engine as it is being shifted, look for the noise, and look for excessive engine movement.
