3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Nothing will ever be a direct fit on a camry unless it's seat covers. Also, turbo'ing an auto 5SFE won't get you anywhere that much quicker.... and that turbo you linked to is SUUUUUUPER tiny.
Look into some real mods first and search the DIY stickies. There's tonnnnns of info in there about stuff you can do!
Well I have followed some of the DIY on here, its something that I love about TN is all the information and great members on the forum. So far I did read up on a diy and had replaced all lights to LED. Not looking to swap my engine to a larger engine with the gas price going above $3.60 per gallon in Miami. Was thinking of switching to a propane tank option or hydrogen option something else that I have also been researching.
a turbo 5sfe would get worse mileage then a stock v6 5speed. so theres all teh reason you need to never consider turboing your car again. as for the alt. fuel idea, just remember that the money spent to save gas may cost more then the gas did in the long run.
You're just ASKING for the transmission to explode. Seriously.
Swap in a 5-speed. a v6 5-speed if you really want speed, the fuel economy is pretty decent, about same as a 3s-gte
Save the turbo for a drivetrain that can actually support it
*edit*
Also, $3.60/gallon? That's bad?
You're paying about 90 cents/litre.
try paying $1.38/litre, or about $5/gallon, and then you'll have permission to complain

dont want to be an ass but if you have to ask if a random ebay turbo is going to be a direct fit on a camry you're better staying away from forced induction... at least on a camry platform

That's the other thing - no such thing as a direct fit on a car that was OEM non-turbo. You'd need a whole shebang of supporting mods, and most of them would be custom (since the performance aftermarket has mad haterade for the camry platforms). Direct fit - no way.
I'd suggest, if you're serious about boost, first consider swapping in a S51/54 5-speed transmission, or a V6/E153 if you want natural torque down low, then start researching how to build a 5s-fte. Some aftermarket parts made for the 5s Celicas (downpipe, for example) would be compatible.

Well Thank you everyone for the information! I will just leave out any engine modification then and move to some detailing. Maybe switch to some new headlights from ebay lol. Would like a lip kit too though and here is my car on cardomain.

well your not obligated to leave out any engine mods... just leave the turbo alone lol
good engine mods are : lightened crank pulley, intake (for sound), seafoam intake cleaning,
Adalex thats a nice bumper! Unfortunately, I don't have that one. However, I was thinking of getting these fog lights from ebay. I did the measurements and they seem like they would fit. What ya'll think?
Iemegacool, i haven't thought about changing the intake for the nice sound. Going to need to research this a lil bit more. Thanks for that idea.
As for sea foam clean I heard can actullay cause damage to the engine. Too clean of an engine and not a well grease one can be worst supposedly.
actually its a kit, brackets and bezels you buy its a little expensive but prolly the nicest mod i've done thats functional. instead of asthetics ie rims etc
