1997 camry 2.2 4 cylinder am2 fuse blowing

My am2 fuse blows when i try to start the engine. I was sitting idle for about 5 minutes with the engine running and the next thing you know the motor dies. Try to start it again but will not even turn over. I started checking fuses and found the am2 30amp fuse under the hood had blown. I replaced it turned the switch to on fuse still good the sec i turned the key to start the fuse blowed. I tried this 3 times it blows everytime in the start position. This camry is a 1997 4 cyl 2.2 litre. Can someone help me with this problem?

Several thing that can cause this, but the most likely is a bad capacitor in the distributor. You can verify this by removing the connector and see if it blows the fuse. Try that and post back.

My camry has the electronic ignition system, and does not have A distributor. Is there anything else it could be?

Right, ignition coil, or coils in your case there should be two of them. Pull the connectors and try a new fuse, also look for frayed/damaged wires.

To test for a short, first pull the negative battery lead, then the positive. With the AM2 fuse removed, look for a short to ground on the output side of the fuse. Do this with the key turned to the start position (get someone to hold the key). If you see a short, you will need to isolate where the short is exactly.

To find the "output" side of the fuse, check for continuity on the fuse terminals and the positive battery terminal. When you find continuity, the output side is the other terminal.
