98' Toyota Camry...coolant backing up in coolant reservoir

My 1998 Toyota Camry LE was leaking coolant from the water pump and coolant was backing up in the reservoir so I had it replaced along with the radiator. Now there is no leak, however, the coolant from the radiator, is still backing up into the reservoir. I took the car back to the repair shop, but they can not find any leaks at all and the car will not run hot. Why is the coolant backing up in the reservoir instead of staying in the radiator. I have to put about one cup of coolant in the radiator daily before it fills to the top. One day when I took the radiator cap off the coolant in the reservoir spittled out of the reservoir through a hole on the lip on the reservoir...I don't think that hole is supposed to be there. I should be a mechanic...how come they didn't notice this opening on the that lip.

Any white smoke when you start the car? Or anything unusual looking on the dipstick?

Is it possible your radiator cap needs to be replaced? Almost sounds like it's opening too early (at too low a pressure) leading to excess flow into the reservoir?

If you do replace your cap I would go to the dealer and get an OEM one. I've been having overheating issues and aftermarket caps caused me a huge headache.

Ha...the radiator cap may be the problem. I am wondering if the reservoir should have a place for overflow to leak out...if not, its the reservoir as well as the cap. In fact the cap could have cause the reservoir problem.

Its the cap. I had the same problem. I went ahead and bought a STANT rad cap just cause it was a sunday, all the toyota dealerships were closed and I didn't want to drive too far in fear of it overheating. Its been two years and I never had a problem. Go get OEM though.
