Replacing battery terminals + wire on 97 camry

Is this difficult to do? I plan on replacing the wires/terminal because it has corroded REALLY BAD. IIRC the negative one is the easier one to replace?

Anybody know if I can get toyota OEM replacement parts relatively pain free online? Or can I just go down to OReilys? I don't want the terminals to corrode as it seems to be!

you can get the negative wiring from battery to car as a replacement kit from dealer. this one is separate and cost like $50 or so.

the positive wiring is part of HUGE wiring harness for all fuse boxes, head lights, fans, ac, abs, srs sensors and bunch of other stuff, so you will need to replace most likely the fusible links that are directly both connected to terminal connector (the flat one that mounts over actual battery terminal on positive post) one one end and crimped on car wiring harness (leading to main fuse box) on other end.

you won't be able to buy those wiring replacements (positive side) from dealer, i've tried. they will tell you it's a part of whole big harness (around $1,400 MSRP for my car) ... BUT, you can buy just new terminal connector (I should have the used one from old harness of my 02 solara V6, matching gen4 camry) and get a replacement fusible links from NAPA, they sell them with many AWG grades, so just match them up and replace both at same time, as they need to be crimped together in connector (flat one on battery side).
on the harness side you can use crimp on butt connectors to car wiring harness, shouldn't be any problem with it.

you will need to match the fusible wire diameter, original OEM are measured in square millimeters (e.g. FL1.25 which I replaced with 12AWG from NAPA "in-line fusible link").

terminals themselves (metal blocks you mount on posts) you can get from dealer easily, refer to www.toyodiy.com/parts for part numbers on your car.

The positive terminal is so fked up, I don't know how to just replace it. Is it possible?

The negative doesn't seem so bad. Uggh. I don't think I can even get the positive off.

get new positive terminal (block): 90982-05035
get new fusible links for positive terminal wiring running to fuse box, you will need 2 inline fusible links (they are a special kind of wires), 16AWG should do fine in order to replace original Yamazaki FL1.25 fusible wire section, the other one can be 12AWG (Yamazaki FL3). If there website was working now, I would find the part for you, but it looks like this:

check this thread to see what i'm talking about:
1mzfe / A541E @ 122k miles, p0500, p1135, p1155

I'm assuming you have crimp tool, stripper and 12AWG butt connectors handy? if not get them from Harbor Freight Tools.

http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-...ter-98410.html
http://www.harborfreight.com/10-pack...ors-66597.html

also get any multimeter/ohm-meter to check for continuity before and after you replace a wire section:
http://www.harborfreight.com/7-funct...ter-90899.html

how is the positive wire (thick one) running straight to starter? i'm pretty sure you can get this one replaced too.

post some pics.
