Bulbs

Bought 2 replacement bulbs (headlights), only after noticing on the box 100/90W.
They are H4 and I know the type is correct, but how critical is the wattage?
(I thought the denomination H4 takes care of everything, but read some stories).
Can I go ahead and replace the existing ones?

H-4's for Headlights?!! I don't think thats quite right, but whatever you plug them into will probably be alot brighter than it was before.. for awhile. Then it will burn out the wiring or a fuse hopefully first. H-4's are usually attached to driving/fog/extra lighting, designed to annoy approaching traffic (I have a set myself, 55w). Where did you happen to find these little gems? I might like to buy a pair myself.

Yes, I think H4 (or 9003) is the type of bulb used.
I'm still to verify it they actually fit the mounting, and possibly check with the dealer.
But if their high current creates the damage you describe, I certainly won't use them.
Then, you may have these bulbs.

What brand and model of bulbs?

AFAICR the original spec is 55 Watts, so 100W seems dangerous as others described.

I use Sylvania UltraStar in my 97 LE and in new assemblies with not-yellowed glass they are plenty bright enough for me. The bulbs are outrageously priced but I wanted more light the easy way......
