Salinas temp ranges from about 40 degF to 60 degF. I'd get Motorcraft FL400S filter (similar to PureOne) and Motorcraft 10W-30 synthetic blend oil (newest API SN GF-5).

High mileage engine oils typically have more detergent, seal conditioners, and are slightly thicker in their viscosity ranges. Mobil oils are fine, also consider Valvoline MaxLife oils.

I personally tend not to use those oils unless there are minor seal related problems or varnish that need cleaning. But others like the extra detergent and seal conditioner for similar amounts of money. YMMV.

The 99 V6 is a known sludge maker. I would stay with 3000 intervals.

I just use 20-50w oil in my cars.. 2 toyotas. One has 365,000 other 200,00. Neither burn oil.. both orginal engines. Climate is San Diego... warm to hot...

I tried high mileage oil once, made no difference...

the cars I grew up with in the 50's 60, 60' all had high mileage and found 20-50w very good for high mileage...

if you use lower like 10-30w that tends to get through the engine and past the rings easier and burns faster...

still try to buy quality oil... Walmart usually has a good deal... and selection..

IMHO

The standard size is Motorcraft FL910S. The FL400S is ~1/2" taller with slightly more filtration area. I'd use FL400S over FL910S.

Probably wing it and do it every 4 months instead of 3 then. This is conservative, but you can also send some oil to Blackstone Labs for oil analysis. They will help to determine a suitable interval for your particular engine.

First order a free test collection kit. Then decide later if you want to do a sample.
