3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi guys. I recently had the rear windows on my girlfriend's 98' Camry tinted while a new alarm was being installed on her car. Five days after the tint was installed, I rolled down the rear passenger windows to reveal a gap between the edge of the tint and the edge of the windows. With the windows closed, I also noticed gaps all around the window. I took the car back to the shop and the guy told me that "they weren't able to get the tint to cover the entire window because there was too much rubber in the way". Is that true? I don't believe the statement because I have tint on my tC's front driver and passenger windows and the tint sits perfect with the edge of the windows and I don't see any gaps around all the edges of the windows when the windows are fully up. I have attached some pictures below. I tookd the car back to have it redone and when I got it back, the windows looked exactly the same. The damn mother f***ers hadn't done anything to the windows at all.

Theoretically it shouldn't be like that. But if this wasnt a pricey tint job its acceptable. If you paid good money and didnt go with the cheapest buy id be pissed.
But yeah if its rolled up and no gap then its not really that big of a deal. But if there are gaps closed then its a shitty tint job.
That's a poor job. Once you paid for it, that's it. You can take it back again and they will keep redoing it.
"..too much rubber in the way" would be true in some cases but my 01 Camry was tinted and there's no gap anywhere. Thou, they had to redo the front windows.
I paid $170 bucks because they gave me a discount for the $130 alarm I bought from them and had installed the same day. The regulary price would had been $250. I also got the upgraded tint film that had a lifetime warranty on it. I'm gonna keep going back until they do something about it. Only thing that sucks is that my girlfriend lives one hour away and the shop is where she lives. Damn that shop.

I have a gap on my car, matter of fact on all cars I have been in with tint, they all have some kind of gap. BUT at least it is trimmed evenly and professionally. I would have them fix that.

I agree, the tint should have been trimmed evenly. I would have assumed that they would have had a machined that would have precut the tint already, but it looks like they had to cut it on their own.

I'm not trying to be racist or anything, but another thing about these guys is that a few of them are Arab and a few of them are Hispanic and they try so hard to be thuggish, its just funny yet stupid at the same time. But when I went in to say something about the tint, they just totally ignored me.

$170 for three windows is quite pricy. To compare; I paid $160 for 35% llumar tint on all five windows on my 01 Camry with lifetime warranty. On a 2011 Versa, I paid $150 for 30% 3M tint for the side and back glass with lifetime warranty. The Camry’s tint matches the window perfectly and it was hand cut. Not sure about the Versa because it was done at a GMC-Buick dealership so I guess it’s also hand cut. They both had to redo a couple windows again due to a few flaws (hair in tint, air bubbles, etc)
Go back and tell them the tint is iffy. Good tint shop should redo it with no question or problem.

Yea, I'm going to call them and bug them about it tomorrow. Since I have the next two days off I want to get things done.

Go in with a lawyer or cop. They'll pay attention.

That's a crappy tint job lol. If they wanted to do a really good job, they would have removed the trim and done it right. You get what you pay for though..
if you dont want to deal with them anymore, use a razor blade and make your own even cut all along the edge. pull of the trimmed piece and use adhesive remover to remove excess adhesive.
