K&N air filter california emissions question

I have a k&n drop in air filter and I will be having an emissions test (smog check) in two months from now. I went onto the website and I read that the air filter i have is not legal for street usage. It seems that if i have this air filter then I would not pass the smog check. Should i just go buy a fram and use it temporarily until the day of the smog check. Could someone clear things up with me. thanks

heres what i read on the website

If you have a drop-in filter, you're fine. Note that it says CUSTOM and UNIVERSAL CONICAL air filters. Read, please.

The K&N direct fit is perfectly legal in all states. What they are saying is modified intakes (without C.A.R.B. certification) may not pass inspection. For example; if you took out the airbox and stuck a K&N cone filter on it, then it's not legal. But if you simply replace the OEM with a drop-in K&N, you're fine.

thanks guy for the clearing things up, for some reason i understood it as if the drop-in was a "universal" fitting filter. I've been tired from school and work, all week i've been out of it.

^ That's so Texan!

Yeah, any drop-in filters are smog legal. It's only when you take out the stock airbox and tubing, do you have problems unless it's CARB approved.
