3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 1995 Toyota Camry XLE and my CD player has finally junked out on me. I purchased a Pioneer DEH-3300UB to replace it, though I do have one question. On the back of the unit, there are Left and Right audio channel ports. I didn't see anything that would plug into these from my old stereo. Also, are the power connectors configured the same (wire-wise) so I can just plug the new unit into the old cable without having to splice anything?
From what i remember from my stereo installation days, those L & R ports are usually run to an auxiliary input like an amp or sub-woofer. As long as you wired up the stock wires to the new unit, all should work. Hope that helps.

Usually you have to buy a harness kit for your vehicle that allows plug-in connector to match wiring configuration. If you bought from a stereo dealer then they should have harnesses.

You need an adapter harness. You can get one from Crutchfield. That's where I got mine. Just search for Item #120701761. When you get the adapter, just match the wire colors from the harness that came with your after market stereo to the same color wires of the adapter harness, then plug the adapter harness into the factory harness. It's that simple.

The purpose of those "right and left" thingys, is actually explained in the instruction/installation manual, really they are. Same for the wiring and the suggestion of an adapter harness, in the instructions also. Read them.

I read the instructions over many times, they are honestly not mentioned unless its in the languages I can't read.

The purpose of the RCA plugs is for connecting an external amplifier. It really should be mentioned in the instruction manual. To use those you'd need RCA patch cords, and of course, an amplifier. If you're just replacing the factory stereo, and don't intend on upgrading the speakers, or adding an amp, then all you need is an adapter harness.

ont he early Corollas and Camrys (early 90's) I don't know about later models..
when I replaced the stock stereos, with ones from Crutchfields, I bought the wiring harness adapter, and took out the old stock strereos, then put the new stereo cd players in,, I found out, do not use the lighting wire (for illumination lighting dimming) (leave it unused as that feature will not be usable with those cars.. (if you try to use it it wil ground your dashlamps and burn out parts..) and using up to 4 speakers everything should work fine without the need for any more amps, pre-amps, etc..
I used wire strippers, solder, solder tool, shrink tubing..... and the new harness plug adapter for the unit that matches your car harness... a decetn sterao can cost as low as $100 or so,, maybe on sale... just use decent speakers 2 front/2 back 40 watts each..
sounds good enough for my I am old..
