lateral control arm replacement or just bushing

Hi, after replacing both the rear wheel bearing I syill have a little play with noise when driving. I jacked up the car and one of the bushing on the lateral control arm is bad. I am now looking to replace the bushing. One bushing is 37. I am debating on just getting a new arm from auto rock. I'm looking to order tomorrow. I think it might be easier to order the whole arm since it comes with new bushing too. I think this and new rear strut would make the car ride good again (plus alignment, shot me).

Opinion please. I'm looking for a newer toyota. This camry is great but it's getting to a point where it's costing a me about a car payment a month (currently at 155,000 miles, transmission 60,000 miles). It's almost to the point if it's not this its another thing.

Last year I started with 114,000 orginal miles in January 2010. Right now it's at 155,000. 2 more years I will have 215,000 miles the way I am driving, plus all the shitty winter pot holes, I don't see the car lasting an longer than that. I still have to get a new radiator the current one is salted up with rust

funny timing, i just replaced the same lateral control arm about a week ago.

rear wheel wobble? how to diagnosis and replace a bad lateral control arm

i need struts all the way around as well, but just replaced the arm. couldnt find anything to replace just eh bushing unless i melted and poured my own. i always justify spending the money to fix an older car until part costs start to average more than $200/month. i seem to average about $500 a year *knocks on wood*.

The joint you've circled doesn't have a bushing. It's more like a ball joint; not replaceable. The other ends of the rear arms all have bushings.

Maybe that's a "stock" photo, and doesn't show the actual part? ... or maybe the design has changed? I know for certain on my '92 Camry, the rear arms have a ball joint on the outer end.

Everything can be replaced.

But in USA it's almost impossible to buy only bushings.
Anyway, replacing whole track control arm is better (removing rusted, 10-15 years old bushings is a nightmare) and more safe.

And it's true that control arm (adjustable one, non adjust. also as long as I remember) should have on one end something like joint (it's not simple rubber bushing, but bushing able to tilt), because it let you make toe in/out in rear suspension.

It has a boot, you can clean it and put fresh grease (but nobody doin' it, and this bushing fail most often).

Aaaahhh... so that outer joint *can* be replaced! Thanks! Like you said, though, I looked high and low and couldn't find anywhere to get just that part, so I assumed it wasn't replaceable.

I decided to order from rockauto with 2 day shipping. It's getting pretty bad and no one locally has it in stock. I was still cheaper than ordering it locally. You can heard the metal hitting each other.

Yeah, mine was noisy as hell! Sounded like a strut was snapped off and clanking around when going over a bumpy road. I was surprised at how little play there was in that outer joint (maybe 0.010 to 0.020"??), considering how much racket it would make.

At the time, Rockauto didn't offer rear arms, so I had to buy OEM; think it was ~$130? Now I see they have 'em for $60!

LOL. I try not to buy from toyota unless it's a timing belt, oil or water pump.

It's true, there is a very small amount of play but when it's on the road, it makes so much noise.

OMG! I spent 3 hours today afterwork and I still couldn't get it off. First it's so damn rusty! I finally got the nut in the middle off after 2 hours and breaking two ratchet. Than I when I got the nut by the brake out, I can't get the damn thing off. I pound it, touched it for 10-15 minutes striaght (until the damn rubber melted away. I pryed it, I used a pulley puller, nothing works. I try to hammer it out after I broke my mallet.

Anyone got any ideas?

Did you use PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench on it? Use one of those liberally and keep working at it. If you've still got one bolt/nut to get out, use a breaker bar with a 3 foot long piece of pipe on it to get more leverage. And if you've got it, use a 6-point socket to lessen the odds of rounding off the nut.
