(2001 1MZ AT) When I did my oil change over the weekend, a good amount of the oil filter capacity spilled out as I removed the filter. I thought I wiped it all up but apparently not. I'm still getting drips (it's very slow, I watched for 5 minutes and didn't see any drip hit the ground).
Any ideas where to look for pockets of the spilled oil from the filter? I don't see anything obvious, but the oil on the galvanized pan I have on the ground says otherwise.
(The drain plug is dry so it's not coming from there, and I'm pretty sure the filter is tight enough. Plus the oil is dirty oil, not new oil, which is why I'm pretty sure it's left over from the oil that spilled from the filter)
^ +1. But I wouldn't use brake cleaner... I'd use something like a pressure washer.

Right, but my question is where the puddles of oil are hiding. I've sprayed the area with Meguiars APC+ (my favored engine cleaner) and wiped everything down I could see, so there should be no more than a film. There must be some pocket somewhere with a puddle of oil, and it doesn't seem any more spraying is going to get it. That's what I'm trying to find out.
So I guess you're saying, indirectly, there isn't a well-known place the oil pools up.
Something you might want to consider building...an oil filter drain/catch device. Haven't seen one on the market so I made my own.
You might be able to use a small plastic bottle (juice, soda, bleach) and cut it so you can fit it under there. Leave the cap on the bottle and it will catch the oil when you remove the filter. It will take some trial and error to git it to fit just right without any drips.

Ah I see what you mean. Comparing the photos there's a good sized pocket behind the engine mount. It looks like it's fairly well sealed by the mount, but maybe the fit between the mount and block is not that tight. I'll have a closer look there. Thanks for the pics. Looks like a good candidate.
