3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've got a small leak from this part which I believe is associated with power steering. Can someone please help me identify this part? This is on a 3VZ but may be the same across the Camry lines. Any suggestions on fixing it? (Its not leaking from the hose or connections)
In before OMG DEVIL HYDRAULIC FAN ISSUES. I seriously want to fins out how to swap the 3VZ's fan to an electric unit.

or to a solenoid that opens the fluid for the fan will turn on a relay for that fan
i can't give a defiant answer to any of this since the 3vz manual doesn't open on my computer, but in theory this will work on any car (for me it was the 7m and 22r) since your not relying on any in car component to control the fans (controller method it has a pickup for the clutch on the ac so it will turn the fan on) but if my method to pick up signal from a solenoid is right that will save the cost of the controller.
now the question is will any ps parts from the mz bolt on and delete the hydrological lines

I am not really following....
So it is a hydraulic fan line / filter.
Does it use the power steering fluid?
Can I just replace the filter and hope the leak goes away?
Will I have to bleed the PS system after?
I don't really want to rewire anything. The leak is minor and everything works fine. I may just leave it alone if its a lot of trouble.
Yep, it's filtering powering steering fluid; which is actually ATF. The power steering pump on 3VZ-FE equipped Camrys (and some early 1MZ's I just learned) is actually two pumps, pancaked together into one physical unit. One runs the power steering, the other the hydraulic motor-powered fans. They share the same fluid reservoir.
So if it's leaking, you could replace it. It'll self-purge any air that gets introduced. It should be pretty simple to do.

i was just able to open the 3vz fsm so i'll update the swap to electric
fsm doesn't include that if it controls fan speed by pulse width (unable to use it to control fans) or simple on off (can use it to use fans) so neh ken

yes, but if you look at the diagram that alex posted it is connected just by 2 ring clamps so you can go down to napa and get a good quality wix universal ps filter and install it
also on alex picture you see that it lists the other part number for the 94 mz

That was the second thought that crossed my mind
If I can find one that is the same diameter, I can probably re-use the bracket too.
This also got me thinking of how a filter can be leaking.... I have a small drip right at the bottom of the bracket. I don't feel any oil around the in / out points but I probably have to look at that a little closer. I just have a hard time imagining a filter leaking somewhere other than the connection points
