Cool just bought a 95 camry with seized engine

we just bought a 95 camry that ran out of oil, what is the first thing to go on these motors when it runs out of oil? Its a 2.2 btw. I can get a used motor with 100k on it for $800 but if i can fix this one cheaper i will.

Sounds like a total rebuild is in order.

would you suggest rebuilding this motor over buying another?

Buy the new one. More than likely the old motor will have some bad scoring on the cylinder walls or a badly damaged crank.

If your looking for a used motor I would suggest going here. I dont know which part of Iowa you are from but I found a motor for 550 with 100k on it. 800 in my opinion is just to much.

The site is www.car-part.com lists all local accredited yards in your area.

Sunline, Inc. - ARAPro USA-IA(Cedar-Rapids) Request_Quote 1-800-553-8421 Request_Insurance_Quote <~~ This is the place that had your motor for 550 with 100k on it..

new motors going to cost you $1200 - $1500.00.

I would just get a used motor .. Pull the valve cover off before you get it and check for sludge.

That's exactly how i bought my 95 camry.. with a seized motor. Lack of oil. I bought a used motor, changed out the Seals and belt on the timing side, valve cover, oil pan, injector o-rings, etc.. installed the motor and it runs like a champ.

Good luck with your choice. It should take 3-4 hrs to remove / install the motor, so make sure your weekend is open!

$800 is about what they all go for around here, im 5 miles from omaha and there is a motor with 100k for 800 and a motor with 175k for 650. My dad is a mechanic and we are going to take the motor apart and see what is wrong and if its worth fixing. If not i will buy the motor with 100k and put an oil pump on it, it already has a new water pump. My dad has a 96 camry and it needed an oil pump because it was leaking oil, its got 200k now and burns no oil at all. It also needed a flex pipe so im thinking this one may need one too, i will see though, after all the parts and the car i will be into it about $1300 if i buy the new motor, not too bad because the car has no rust, no dents, perfect interior and fairly low miles. Its also got american racing wheels that have to cost at least 1000.

well if you got the skills to rebuild, you can do it for around $1300.00 no problem

You will for sure need to either resurface the crank, or get a new crank. Probably Hone the cylinders. Maybe bore. Hard to tell without tearing into it

well looked at it closer today and the rod went though the block, so i will be buying the $800 motor with 100k, also the car has tokio (not sure on spelling) rear shocks and kyb front shocks, now i know these arent stock because my dads car doesnt have them but are they oem replacements or upgraded shocks, if they are upgraded are they any good? The flex pipe looks pretty rotted too so may be getting one of those.
