I won this little drawing at my local napa store and they gave me this oil filter. I have never heard or seen this filter. It's called ultra 8 by nippon. Please let me know what your opinons are about this filter or the company that makes these filter.
I also have some pictures of the filter
The filter base looks weak. It might work just fine for most 3K OCI but because of that little oval sticker, I stay away from it. Just my opinion.
Do you think the napa proselect oil filter would be better. I looked online for the price of this filter it for 6 bucks. while a regular nape proselect is 3.50
I can't see anything Nippon (Japanese) about this filter except for a few glyphs on the metal case (saying Oil Filter if i'm not wrong) ... doesn't look too promising to me, not the cheapest one either though ...
after some searching through forums, some posts come up saying Mazda dealers sell them... so it can't be tragic

I use Napa Proselect for a while now on all the family vehicles with no problems. It's still a Wix filter, just a nitrile ADBV insteal of silicon. I haven't found any bad report about ultra 8 filters but it's that "Made in China" sticker that bothers me. Hopefully it's just the box.
The "Ultra-8" sounds like one step "above" the "Group-7" filters the corner gas stations install. Don't know them, but personally I'm inclined to stay away from the Ultra-8s and Group-7s. That said, the Ultra-8 construction looks very similar to OEM.
Toyota lubrication systems basically use the same Ford spec. So there are a lot of good filters at great prices out there. For example, Purolator PureOne PL20195/PL10241 at Pep Boys or Motorcraft FL400/910-S. Or the taller -YZZD3 from the dealer too. (I have to check that tall OEM filter thread again ).
My understanding of Wix filters is they are not as efficient as the PureOnes. Neither are the orange Fram filters.
Absent filtration capabilities (micron level) and filter media size (sq in) you can't judge this filter by looks. Price may reflect quality but more times than not targets a market price point. If that, "little oval sticker" says Korea, then remember that Hyundais and Kias are some of the top quality autos built.

just use the filter
in fact John is right, it looks similar to Toyota OEM, I'm too tired now to check the other thread for pics and what not, but it's not a bad filter. although it's not the highest quality (Japan domestic market) either. I would put it right next to OEM probably ... and that is I use a lot of OEM filters, because I bought them in cases of 10 for either of cars (stock sizes) some time ago
