3rd Generation 1993 Camry transmission fluid

I was hoping for anyone here to tell me how i check and/or change my transmission fluid. My car is a 1993 Camry 4cyl. 5 speed manual. I do not see a dip stick to check the level of the oil and im scared that it has never been changed or checked the car has close to 200k miles on it but it still shift and drives pretty good.

I hope this info was enough.

Thanks in advance!!! :-)

There is no dipstick for the manual. You need to check by removing the fill plug (24mm, facing the radiator). The drain is 17mm under the left halfshaft.

I'd change it 15-30K miles.

Or get the 75W90 from the dealer.

Most 75W90 gear oils on the store shelves now have limit slip friction modifiers added already. They are only to be used for non-synchro manual transmissions.

Came across this thread while searching. I too have a question regarding a 93 Camry Tranny fluid.

My 93 is a 3.0 V6 auto tranny with 180k miles.
What type of tranny fluid for this tranny?

It should have the Aisin A540E automatic transmission, and takes a Dexron-III type ATF.

If the weather turns cold in Ohio, Mobil-1 ATF for the PS steering system, transmission, and the differential would be a good choice. The next would be a synthetic-blend (used to be anyways) Castrol Import Multi-vehicle ATF and Walmart SuperTech Mercon-V (both suitable for D-III, but no longer advertise syn-blend, maybe went to Group II+ from II/III blend? Dunno).

Of course there are boutique ATFs. I tend to stick with common brands. Don't forget to drain/fill the differential. It's often neglected.

The 3VZ-FE V6 calls for DEX 2 but that's only because DEX 3 wasn't around yet. Dex 3 replaces Dex 2.
